Matthew Hoppe

At least you were aware enough to know you were being talked about 😅
I certainly said Jones would end up in league one, he's proven me wrong. I didn't say any the others, not me guv.

I do stick by my claim that he lacks a bit of technical and tactical ability, but he works hard and has learned some big lessons in and out of possession. I still worry when he needs his first touch to be in on goal, that he's form will let him down and the chance will be gone, but it happens less often these days. That little bit of consistency in his touch is something that will take him to the next level.

To balance that error out, I was always right about Coulson, Bola, Ikpeazu, Sporar, Saville and Wing not good enough for the top half of the championship despite the board 'experts' ;):ROFLMAO:

Michael Carrick on Bolaser, Hackney and Howson from the Boro v Millwall Media Transcript on Thursday:

Is it hard not to have Barlaser, Howson and Hackney all in the same team?

It's nice to have good players to choose from, I'll tell ya. We've got that [choice] in a few positions to be honest and, flexibility and good options. It's great to see Dan[Bolaser] and Johnny [Howson] have done an unbelievable job over….seem to be playing every game now for six weeks and one of the busiest periods of the season. You can see that in terms of their kind of connections and wavelength and the confidence that they're playing with. Obviously, Hayden [Hackney], we know what [he's] capable of, and he stepped back straight into the game last week and looked like he'd never been away. That's not easy. So, we've got good options and Hayden can play a bit higher up at times. So, we can be a little bit flexible with that. It's great to have the options you know. We've got games coming up, where we'll have to pick and choose a little bit, but the boys work well together whoever plays.

1. Have you done some coaching courses that gave you a certificate?

2. Are you involved with coaching / managing a team aged 16 or under?

I’m not having a go btw. I just have my suspicions

To be fare most people on here at one point were calling out Jones last season before we knew a bit more of his situation, I did as well not at the time but this season, I thought maybe he was struggling at the start because of his issues, my thinking was he might have to move nearer to home, really glad I was very wrong.

The issue is obviously if he plays even one second he's ours for the season. So they have to be sure they really want him.

The fact he's not figured or been mentioned suggests we are looking for another club. I think his contract is up in the summer? So probably wont see him again. I mean we've hardly 'seen him' anyhow 😂

It may also come down to us getting someone in before the end of Jan. A bit like Coburn. He stayed due to our inability to get someone else in. So funny how things turnout. He's been superb.

An issue with Hoppe - is he better than Gilbert or Kavanagh?

Myself, I think we will bring in a out and out forward, but if we don't it leaves the above question.

Well now you know, instead of just thinking you know. Always good to be educated 👍
I know right! What a whopper! Haaland as well.. sounds ridiculous now.

Still.. not a bad showing from Hoppe.

Wonder where all his goal scoring juice went?

Not too sure how many times we’ve been through the wringer on Hoppe but basically he’s not been good enough while at MFC (or at Hibs or anywhere recently).

Granted he might have done ok in the Bundesliga but that’s in the past and so far with us he’s not been able to get into squad never mind the starting eleven. The sooner we get shot of him and maybe he regains his mojo then the sooner the better as he’s taking up a spot in the squad places.

Alan Kernaghan scored a hattrick for boro once in league game playing as an emergency striker

Don't think he was tried there again

Unfortunately for Hoppe, aside from the fact he's not impressed, he's not really an out and out striker either.

And we're pretty well stocked in the "can play as a striker or in the 3 places behind one" position. Greenwood, Rogers, Crooks and Forss can all do that anyway. And almost certainly better than Hoppe can.

So I don't really see the point.
