MC Post match interview

Looked shocked, embarrassed and a tad lost . Took the blame to deflect from players . Seems they performed the system as he told them and he got it wrong. Missing key players and no striker ... has he been hung out to dry? Mc Gree is not the same dynamic player pre injury and the full backs are not up to it Ayling saunted and jogged through the game ... Love MC but when the canoe hits the rapids thats when you earn your crust ... anyone can paddle it in smooth waters. Lacking a leader on the pitch who can create an inpulse and whip up a storm ... it was a real shocking watch on TV ... Seasons dead. Lets see what MCs next move is with the squad he has

I’m hoping he stays to see how this progresses next season…
He’s been dealt a bad hand and tried his best, may be needs a bit mor flexibility in his formation and style… Chelsea and Leicester show we can change styles and overcome…
I’m still baffled about the crooks decision and Roger’s was pretty much out of the clubs hands… hopefully money will be invested next season and we’ve learned from this…

My fear tho is our key players will be off, Hackney and mcgree…

He won’t get far unless he learns to become more flexible with his tactics, playing out from the back is lunacy unless you have the players to do it, we have given so many goals away this season from not being able to execute it properly. The less said about this false 9 b***ks were currently playing the better. Historically apart from Man City and Barcelona and to a lesser extent Arsenal it doesn’t work

You could see within the first five minutes yesterday that Plymouth were pressing right up on us, and it was only a matter of time before they scored. Every team in the league knows it’s a massive weakness.
ever since Burnley away last season any team who high press we struggle to break it. We need to adjust to it

Can’t see Carrick going.

He still has much to prove.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he left in the summer. We’ve sold Tav, Spence, Akpom and Rogers for approx £40 million over last couple of years, and we brought in an untested gamble in Lath and some young ‘prospects’ and untested-at-this-level players from inferior leagues. We had to change plans and cancel Coburn's loan right at the end of the window, (which would have probably been the best move for his development), because we only had one striker on the books! (Not counting Forss, cos they clearly don’t see him as a striker, despite giving him minutes up top yesterday).
Despite Coburn and Lath being crocked for large chunks of the season, and us having tried various attacking midfielders up top over past few months, we went through the January transfer window without addressing the striker issue. Yes, we’ve had appalling injuries that have hugely impacted our season. Yes we’ve had a couple of successes in the market in RDVB and Dieng (why the **** isn’t he playing?!?!) Yes Carrick’s selection hasn’t been right sometimes - Hackney out of position, Dieng on the bench when supposedly fit, etc
Ultimately though, when all is said and done, we’ve got no striker. No focal point of the team. We frequently are chasing games and ‘batter’ teams in the second half, and by that I only mean dominating possession in and around the box, but without creating much in the way of shots on goal or proper chances. We’ve asked Carrick to get us promoted and then we’ve stripped 45+ goals from the team in Archer, Akpom and Ramsey and we’ve replaced them with youngsters, projects and untested players. We’ve tied one hand behind his back and blindfolded him. This seasons failings lie squarely on our lack of investment and recruitment where it matters, and if I was Carrick I’d be mightily cheesed off. Think this will end up proving to have been a missed opportunity to achieve something with a very good up and coming manager. Ho hum.

*Probably win the next three games and then we’ll all be talking about play offs again, like the silly mugs we are. Nothing but disappointment awaits us this season. Potentially a summer that is all about the loss of Hackney, RVDB, McGree and Carrick. I know I’m being pessimistic and I’m normally a very optimistic Boro fan, but I’m really feeling massive ‘what could have been’ vibes at the minute.

To be fair what can he really say, we all saw how bad it was so whatever he said wasn’t going to really matter.
Even anything and if he already didn't know it, Loans and out of contract players aside, there are some players that are just not good enough to play the way he wants and upgrades are needed!

I hope like we did with Smith, Lenihan and even Leadbitter we are hot on the trial of any good players who's contracts are ending this summer!

We need some seasoned champo players not all prospects who don't know the division.

Most teams can adapt and become a very well structured defensive unit but our team appears to really struggle in this capacity no matter who plays including any of the injured players which leaves us wide open every game, we are also a confidence team which affects our play massively.

Agree, I haven’t listened to it because it’s a waste of time listening to words.
What is important is how he responds to the issue, on Saturday Carrick didn’t understand how to respond to the players he had available, he learned nothing from previous games whereby he didn’t have the players to play HIS style.
If he doesn’t take a more pragmatic approach given the limitations of badpasser and obrien along with ayling, changing his keeper (Which is frankly a mystery) then Carrick loses my support.
It demonstrates proper nous and intelligence to recognise your limitations and act accordingly.
He cannot play the style he wants to at home. We don’t have the players, howson especially, is badly missed as is Hackney but not as much as howson.
He’s 37 though which is a worry in and of itself.

The team can defend well against far better opposition (Villa, Chelsea (h), Leicester x 2), so the players we have can do it, no need for wholesale changes. What needs to change is the thing at fault and that's the system we play. We've been well and truly sussed out at home.

I think going into next season MC needs to be a lot more realistic with what he's asking players at this level to do week in week out, maybe a little less fancy football and get some points on the board early on to give us a chance - seriously needs to think about grinding out results at home with 5 at the back, stop playing out ffs, or at least mix it up! and then be more adventurous away from home (which has worked this season). Home form is atrocious.

Last season showed with the right players Carrick can do wonders. We just don’t have those players anymore.

I understand why he's shouldering the blame. Deflecting criticism away from his players. Yet it's getting to a point where certain players need dropping or calling out.

He can't take the blame or legislate for O'Brien and Glover combining for the first goal yesterday. That or the countless ridiculous individual mistakes we've made in the last month or so. Just finding even more ridiculous ways to concede goals.

It's not on him that CMs keep losing possession in dangerous areas. Although picking a GK who's now made 3 mistakes in almost as many games has to be questioned. Has he just forgot that Dieng was arguably our best player prior to injury? Definitely our best signing (along with Rav).

I think one or two of his tactics have been sussed and he desperately needs to start games quicker, especially at home, yesterday it seemed like we were just waiting for Real Madrid, er sorry I meant Plymouth, to score.

Unacceptable really, if it had been anyone other than Carrick there would have been absolute hell on yesterday.

I think that’s ayling I think we’ll sign him in he summer why else would he leave Leeds
I hope not as he has been a really good player but not good enough for what we are looking for, actually IMO he isn't as effective as Tommy Smith who offers leadership qualities and defensive know how as well as ability but is another who is a year older and coming back from a terrible injury, and Dijksteel who just hasn't been able to hold down a regular spot due to his own difficientcies, he always looked better as part of the back 3
