McGree/Ramsey/Forss conundrum

I was calling for Ramsey to come off just before he scored. Then he was probably our most dangerous player. I also thought Crooks should've been off long before he scored. Shows you what I know.

Nice conundrum for the manager to have.

What I would say is that Ramsey sort of took up a more central role after his goal and he looked more dangerous.

They all over something different and they are all good enough to start so I don't think there's necessarily a right or wrong choice and it probably depends on the opposition.

Forss doesn't offer as much in terms of creativity as the others but him being on the right keeps us wide and makes more space inside. He's also the best of them at making runs through the middle.

McGree is probably the best all rounder and moves all over the pitch which is a nightmare for defenders. Good finisher and link up player.

Ramsey is the best at carrying the ball but probably the weakest going the other way. I think he also stays left more than McGree and it brings Giles in to the game more. I think we make loads more opportunities to cross from the left with Ramsey in the team.

But he never tracks back which exposes Giles ?

Forss keeps the shape but doesn't really get at the full back or beat a man too often. I don't mind what Carrick does (rotating, changing the right and left midfielder around). Personally, I'd go with Ramsey and Mcgree, but Forss isn't the worst option to have.
I feel he does to be fair, maybe less so away from home but at home he often gets his head down and tries to outrun his full-back.

I think he's different to Ramsey in that he'll look to make runs in behind, whereas Ramsey wants to drop deep and drift inside to receive the ball.

No you are right both should have been off before they scored. As they say football is a funny old game.

Tough one isn't it. I genuinely believe our best front 4 is McGree, Akpom, Ramsey behind Archer.

Big fan of Forss' goals but I'm not sure he can quite link up the way we want to in the final third. Couple of occasions last night he was slow getting his head up and spotting an easy ball.

Crooks ditto - works as a target but we're a much better side when we rely on movement, passing and exploiting space in the final third for me - and the other four are much more adept at that imo.

It's a lovely predicament to have. 3 top players fighting for 2 spots. It's great for competition.

I wouldn't drop McGree as I think he knits the midfield and attack nicely.

The right hand side is a coin toss between Ramsey and Forss and I'd probably plump for Forss for his pressing and pace, however I won't be displeased if Ramsey starts instead.

I think it's close between the 3 of them.

Tough but good headache for Carrick to have.

Thought Ramsey was poor 1st half today but scored the 1st and set up the 2nd in the 2nd half.
Spot on, he was poor first half, but for 25mins came alive in the second half.

It is a conundrum because all three have strengths.

McGree for me is the most intelligent, really good technique really good movement, but maybe lacks a goal threat.

Forss will score the most goals, works his a@@e off, is physical but lacks a trick that a winger needs to beat a man.

Ramsey, future top prem player, quick feet a threat, but tries to do too much himself and drifts in and out of games.

It’s a good problem to have

I feel we can play 'Carrickball' most effectively when McGree is in the side. Were not as fluid in our play when Ramsey starts ahead of McGree in my opinion, as he often wants to try and dribble with the ball and can be a bit ball greedy, however Ramsey is capable of producing big moments in games.

I'd continue to try and accommodate McGree and Ramsey into the side for now but I think Carrick should stop them from rotating wings. Keep McGree on the left drifting inside and keep Ramsey on the right. If it isn't working you have the option of taking McGree off for Forss and switching Ramsey to the left, or Ramsey off for Forss and keeping McGree on the left.

It is a bit of a tricky one. I was calling for Ramsey to get hooked and for McGree to come on for him just seconds before Ramsey's goal. The same thing with Crooks. As soon as I said that we needed to take him off and bring Archer on Crooks scored.

Always puzzles me this stuff.
Crooks was going to get hooked then scored then they left him on for ages.

He was getting hooked because he was doing little. OK, he scored, but why leave him on?
I think the logic (bizarre IMO) is that his lacklustre performance would suddenly get better as a result of the goal.
It didn't - Archer came on and was a handful. Could have been on much earlier.

McGree is not nearly as big a goal threat. 6 goals and 3 assists in 42.
Ramsey has 4 goals and an assist in 9.
Forss has 10+4 in 38.

McGree just does not have near as much end product for those roles. His goal conversion is very low and his shot accuracy is also much lower than Forss and Archer. He has by far the lowest shot accuracy and goal conversion of all our forward players inc Watmore.
He is also far too lightweight for CM.
He's good to have as cover, or a bench option, but he doesn't do enough with his freer role to start for me.

I guess that is managing personalities for the run in. It's difficult to hook someone straight after scoring, you have to reward players to a degree.
