Michael carrick into 6/1 second fav

honestly im starting to think we need less of the tactics and more of the keep it simple and get better players in the door
What I don't want us to do is employ a manager who wants a whole new set of players and a completely different system.

We've been stuck in that loop far too long. It's Groundhog Day all over again...

What’s carrick’s style? Does he have one? He only had 3 games at Man Utd so don’t think he’d have been trying much?

Assume he played in teams that generally played with 4 at the back.

He’d be an interesting choice and think most would get behind him. He would need to hit the ground running though, but suppose anyone would.
He was a cultured footballer that’s for sure
It won’t be long ball

Anyone wondering about Carricks results as a manager

1-1 vs Chelsea
2-0 Villareal
3-2 Arsenal

Asked a good mate of mine who's a United fan what he thought and replied with 'I'll go with relegation '
Sounds reassuring haha

Given that he has played and coached at the highest end of domestic football then I think it’s a good shout. Yes his first managerial role but he’s not coming in totally wet behind the ears and will have learned from some other high quality coaches and managers.

I’d be happy with Carrick.. until he loses 3 games on the trot then BOOOOOOOO!

The level Carrick played at is pretty much irrelevant surely? Might help him with getting respect of the players a bit, but it's his coaching credentials I'm interested in.

Is he as highly rated as an assistant as Karanka or McLaren were? Not sure he is.

Nothing against him, will totally back him if he gets it, but I don't think there's much evidence either way to make a judgement on whether he'd be a good appointment.

One of the ITK on oneboro reckons new boss is Spanish, but not aitor
He's also just posted this...

"I haven't been told who the next manager is as the decision hasn't been made yet, I was just told Corberan has been interviewed and is back for the 2nd round of interviews next week.

So y'know.... don't go betting your mortgage on it or anything daft like"

So, if he is correct, it's still very much up in the air. I do expect an appointment early next week though, to give the new guy most of the week and a chance to instil his ideas before the home game with Blackburn.

Would Carrick have the same pull as Robson did?
Even though we havent that money anymore, would he persuade senior quality internationals to come to Boro?
No, but he would have more than Warnock and internationally more than Wilder

Not sure the "pull" of individuals is as significant as it was anyway. Obviously players will want to play for coaches with good reputations (Pep, Klopp etc) but does a manager's reputation as a player make any difference these days? Can't see it making much of one.

What's probably more important are the contacts and you'd think Carrick would be well set on that front (both domestically and abroad).

I'd also expect him to be more comfortable with a more "cosmopolitan" recruitment strategy/dressing room than our previous two managers, having experienced that throughout his career.

Wilder and Warnock were both opposed to it (to a fairly strong degree) and in the modern game that's like working with one hand tied behind your back.
