Michael carrick into 6/1 second fav

Aren't the itk people on oneboro just as full of horse**** as the itk people elsewhere?
There's one genuine ITK on there and it's JMDAPD. He has connections with someone of Rockliffe so always knew who was coming before the press/media knew.

As for the others, I think they all just throw a dart and hope it hits the target, then claim ITK.

I see almost nothing in Carrick to say he'd be any where as good or as highly rated as our previous jaunts down this route.

As said by a few, Robbo was a giant in the game, McLaren was one of the highest rated coaches/assistants in the country, working for the most successful manager in the UK. Karanka was again assistant to one of the all time greats of management at one of the worlds biggest & most successful clubs.

I just don't see Carrick as anywhere near that level, I think it shows how lost and desperate we are, and how uninspiring most of the other linked managers are that so many see him as a good option. Wasn't he linked with Lincoln a while back?

I'm not mad against him, just seems a bit meh in a way I didn't feel about Karanka, Schteve or obviously Robbo.

Excuse my naivety...but where do the managerial interviews take place...?
Surely not Riverside...is it Rockcliffe...anyone actually know how where this process takes place...asking for a friend 😊

Not sure the "pull" of individuals is as significant as it was anyway. Obviously players will want to play for coaches with good reputations (Pep, Klopp etc) but does a manager's reputation as a player make any difference these days? Can't see it making much of one.

What's probably more important are the contacts and you'd think Carrick would be well set on that front (both domestically and abroad).

I'd also expect him to be more comfortable with a more "cosmopolitan" recruitment strategy/dressing room than our previous two managers, having experienced that throughout his career.

Wilder and Warnock were both opposed to it (to a fairly strong degree) and in the modern game that's like working with one hand tied behind your back.
100% this - there's only one pull for footballers and that's the pay packet.

Contacts are important but in Wilder we've arguably just lost a manager with a few of those - I bet there were plenty of other potential destinations for Steffan this season for instance.

Robbo was from the north east and captain of Man Utd - same as Carrick
McClaren was assistant at Man Utd - same as Carrick
Karanka was assistant to Mourinho - same as Carrick

He does seem very much like a Steve Gibson appointment tbh..

But then so does Steve Bruce!

Was chatting to the lads in the office about this.

My guess would be virtually if they're overseas, or potentially a mutual meeting point (hotel, something like that where room can be booked) away from Teesside.

There's no way they'd have them at Rockliffe.. too many people kicking around.. would get leaked.

I get where you are coming from Newy, but for me Karanka and McLaren were both assistants when those teams and their managers were at the peak, the top table of their domestic leagues and in Europe too. Carrick is maybe more just his timing of being there, but the same level these days would be a Klopp / Guardiola assistant maybe? Carrick just isn't at the level of the other three IMO.

The fact that they were captains or are from the north east doesn't mean much to me really, you'd think Carrick has lived away from the area most of his life, going to West Ham in his teens and settling in the north west. Lets be honest, the chances of him being here more than two years seems pretty slim these days anyway. I just think there will be better candidates. Especially if he does favour 4-1-4-1. We are heavy with strikers and centre halves, and have no DM in the squad and no cover at LB.

That said, he may have good contacts in the Man U development squads and be able to strengthen us with good youth players.

I do get your point, but we're also in a much weaker position than we were when when we appointed Robson and McClaren.

We'd been out of the Premier League for 4 years when Karanka was appointed, after a decade of being an established side.

We've now been out of the Premier League for 5 years after one season where we struggled badly and came back straight back down.
We've not been an established top flight side in 13 years.

Add to that, our owner is less of a comparative powerhouse than he used to be.
Our appeal and standing is less than it was, so too is the caliber of who we can appoint.

LB Kai Wagner is out of contract in December at Philadelphia Union
DM Jason Knight out of contract in the summer at Derby..

at the moment Leo Percovich is the outstanding candidate his back room staff are very capable and know the potential and limitations of our academy players.

I can’t see this seasons Steve Cooper amongst the names banded about.. even with Steve Cooper! This season’s Bielsa?

I don't care what the odds say about Carrick. I don't believe for one second we will take a punt on him, after the last 5 failures.

Carrick would be far too much of a gamble.

Bookies obviously mopping up.
