Michael Carrick Before talking today ahead of the Coventry Away Play Offs...

Q: Darragh Lenihan talked about trying to approach the game like any other game and also how you have given a message to players to enjoy their football. But how do you make sure they can enjoy rather than get too nervous this Sunday?

MC:
I think the enjoyment one is a funny one because really we are in it to win. You have got to express yourself and play with that confidence. I think the enjoyment, ie go any enjoy it, go and enjoy but really we are playing to win. So, there is definitely that element. But playing with that expression and that freedom to go and trust yourself to play and not tensing up and worrying about the result, there is a big difference. I think you enjoy it once you win and you come off the back of it more than anything else.

Q: Obviously there is going to be a tremendous atmosphere over the two games. For all the Boro fans going to Coventry what role will they have in the tie?

MC:
A huge role, a huge role. It is really, really important for us to feel that support and to feel that and hear that noise in them kind of moments and momentum and the roars and the support to give the boys that energy and that boost when we need it and that adrenaline that we all kind of crave and need to feed off. So, we will definitely need that going down there and I'm sure the numbers and the noise that will be generated on Wednesday night is something that we need and will feed off for sure.

Let's hope we get the atmosphere built up pre match. Hopefully everyone in their seats nice and early and making some serious racket.

There’s been a number of contributing factors but it’s doesn’t feel like the riverside has been really rocking for a little while now. Hopefully that is about to change as the previous Brentford play off game was one of the best atmospheres I can remember.

Yeah, it's been oddly flat all season. Our fans were pretty much silent after the final whistle vs Coventry and their fans were in party mood, although it's understandable considering they had just qualified.

It still concerned me slightly though as made me feel as though they were going into the playoffs feeling as though they have momentum.

We really need to find our voices for the home leg.

I think sometimes when it’s a full house, obviously with a lot of people who don’t get there regularly, it can harm the atmosphere a bit. A lot of people sat talking to each other as if they are in the pub.

Could do with a big build up before the game by the club on the pitch to get people in their seats early and singing before the game and not just waiting for pig bag to come on.

I was actually talking primarily about Sunday and the away fans in the vital first leg.
But there will be a big flag display in the Riverside on Wednesday - if you look down the threads I was appealing for helpers - we have 45-50 so far. Meet on Tuesday evening at 4.30 pm outside the Ayresome gates.
Then those that can will start again at 9.30am on Wednesday morning - putting out the display on seats starting at the top and working down.
All but the South Stand where Red Faction will be doing their own thing.

Since we were guaranteed to be playing in the playoffs the fans have been saving their voices. Think that now the big games are here the “injured“ fans will be back and we will be playing our first team! (y)

They have been 24k Boro regulars in the second half of the season so the non regulars are only 6k. The regulars outnumber them 4 to 1.

Sorry I have to disagree with PB - the atmosphere overall has been as good as any season, at the games I have been to. At times the whole South Stand has been bouncing in a mini version of the Dortmund Kop. Thats never happened before.

The Coventry game will be the biggest of the season at the Riverside which I am sure will raise the decibels.
