Morgan Rogers

So why sub the best player off first.. are you saying Unal Emery doesn't know what he is doing?

Ah, he only knows what he's doing if he does something which could be construed as negative towards Rogers. Him being desperate to buy him, and him playing him regularly in the first team ahead of a current Italian international doesn't count, but when he takes him off that proves wily old Emery knows what he's doing. Got it.👍🙄

Them Villa reserves Rogers was supposed to be rotting in must be wondering where he is?🤷

I can confirm… for the avoidance of doubt…. That
I am not saying Unal Emery doesn’t know what he is doing

I’m really sorry if my concise post confused you.

I used those words, in that order, deliberately in order to be clear about the message I was trying to convey.

It’s fickle the Premier League, lots of desperate managers involved being bullied around by crooked owners, hopefully Morgan Rogers won't become the new DJed Spence.

From reading the Villa forum midweek (haven't looked today) I think the general consensus is that he's showing some real bits of quality along with a bit of sloppy play but there was a constant criticism that he doesn't work hard enough to win the ball back or close down. Most of their comments were positive though and they seem hopeful about him.

I guess it's similar to the comments we used to see on this forum. Promising to see he can still show some of that quality at PL level though. Especially grabbing himself a goal today.

I think that ‘style’ thing will be his biggest problem, you can have the best first touch in the world but if fans don’t think you are putting a shift in then they will have doubts.

It's the way footballs evolved isn't it. Every team defends from the front. 30 years ago when teams played 4-4-2 the strikers weren't really expected to defend. Now every player in the pitch has role with and without the ball.

Im old to remember when people said they right for his career was to spend time playing football and Middlesbrough than going to villa cos it would stunt his development.

4 starts in the prem will have done more for his development than staying at boro

Funny how people feel perfectly justified writing off a player as league one at best after 45 minutes, but when someone is our most creative player for months on end, is bought by one of the best teams in the country, then despite claims that "he'll just rot in their reserves", plays regularly and thrives....then it's "stop being so premature".🤷

Not only a barometer of how much people know about football it seems, but also how desperate people are to avoid admitting they're wrong.
It’s the internet age, the psychology of people is laid bare for us all to witness

Exactly.. it's total rubbish when people say that players should stay in the Championship to help with their development at 21 and 22 year old. People saying the same about Hackney. If they are good enough they will get chances in a Premier League squad. Along with training with better quality players daily.

Hackney played close to 100 games at Champo level. He's ready to step up if he's good enough.

A bit different with VDB who's that bit younger and didn't have much senior playing time but he'll be in that situation in a years time.

Said at the time was a deal that suited all parties, and stand by that. We got a large profit on a player that wanted to move, Rogers got a fantastic move with great opportunities and a massive pay rise (I imagine) and villa are playing a relative small fee (for them) for a player woth huge potential.

Sometimes moves happen and they should.

I’ve been surprised that he us getting regular starts but he’s proving himself capable at that level so fair play to him. He’s gained a lot of confidence from his time at Boro and taken that to the prem. I’m sure both him and Villa will be pretty pleased with how the transfer had worked out thus far. Shame we only got to see him play for us for six months.

Absolutely, but equally he wouldn't have progressed in the U23's - thankfully it looks like he's firmly in and around the first team, because he's a talented player (the turn for his goal was beautiful!).
