I agree with that. The fact were pinning hopes on him as the only relatively forward thinking player shows just how average the midfield is.
 
The midfield is a huge worry. I've called for fans to be patient with Mowatt but games are passing him by. In hindsight we were probably naive to think that he was going to be anywhere near the player he used to be when you consider WBA were willing to loan him out to a division rival.

Crooks and Howson also had stinkers. Howson couldn't seem to get anything right first half and Crooks is just too slow and wasteful in possession.

Think the midfield needs a complete revamp. Try and get Luongo up to speed asap and let's get him in there, and hopefully Stephens can prove himself in training and comes in and improve things.

Howson was really poor 1st half
Crooks had a stinker too - he seemed to think we has all night to equalise at times when he was given the ball in space
 
I thought McGree was one of the few positives tonight. He's an intelligent with an eye for a pass. Not sure we need both him and Mowatt in the team though as they perform similar roles and neither are great without the ball.

Expect Luongo will come in soon which will tighten things up in the middle.

McNair was exposed a lot tonight. Doesn't help having Jones in front of him whose positional play without the ball is poor. If we're going to play the wing backs high up we need wife centre halves who are better defenders than McNair imo (or ones who hold the ball and contribute more to attacks)

That moment when Howson played a long ball down the right side without even looking to see if anyone had made a run summed up the first half performance. I was furious.

Crooks is just so poor in tight areas but seems that he struggles to find himself in a position to receive the ball in space because of his lack of pace.
 
I wouldn’t single out any player tonight as the whole team pretty much were poor - I’d probably exempt Muniz from criticism as the service to him was meagre and he did work hard enough and took his goal well. For me our problems are emanating mostly from midfield . Maybe a different formation might work, but would Wilder do that ? Someone else might ……..
 
McNair is shocking. Clarke was almost as bad. Correct changes at half time, should have been Clarke aswell. McGree looked much better in midfield, linking play and trying to go forward. Although he was at fault for the second, at least Howson was trying to go forward. I would get Bamba back before letting McNair play again. Two up top next game and going forward with McGree linking.

Or he could just play McNair and Clarke further forward as they were putting it on a plate for their attackers.

Shocking first half, second is what I expect us to play like.
