Mr Safegate to ring the changes this evening?

Maybe Foden comes back refreshed and willing to play LW.
Maybe Bellingham, Foden and Saka sort themselves out and play how they can.
Maybe Kane will show his absolute class.
Maybe Mainoo with Rice will really gel.

They are all outstanding players.
Maybe its not just the manager who needs to step up.

Mainoo and Palmer have to start tonight we looked much better with them in the team

In his interview after the game Southgate's comments seemed to say it's good that Palmer could come on and influence the game from the bench. It didn't seem worded to say he'd be in contention for a start.

Fingers crossed though.

I do think Mainoo and Rice as a pair will improve us. Looking forward to seeing how they get on as a partnership. Promising signs in the second half against Slovenia.

As opposed to dropping the best player in the Premier League, the best player in La Liga, the best striker in the world or an excellent right winger?
No, just play Bellingham as an 8 , Foden as a 10, and yes I’d drop Saka as he has been poor and unfortunately the tournament football works you have to drop out of form players.

Team chemistry is what wins you games. Right now we don't appear to have that so if dropping a so called best player is required to achieve the balance then yes that is what needs to happen.

Because they have all been so effective playing as they have been - haven’t they?

Wasn’t the issue with England of the past the same players every game regardless of how they performed. Just willing players into suddenly performing in the same tactic that hasn’t worked for just seems wishful thinking.
You may be right, but if he changes and we go out or even play badly, then the noise will be how can he drop our best players and expect us to progress?

I think the bloke has earned the right to do what he thinks is best.
We are in a Round of 16 tie against a team we should beat.
If we do, then we will be in a QF with another team we should beat.

Mainoo will be the only change. Like the OP said, very frustrating.

Seems like Southgate is digging his heels in, refusing to listen the rest of the country and going for the safe option, again.

Maybe he will change the starting line up one player at a time, ensuring we have the best, and freshest team for the final. Assuming we get through the next rounds.

Gordon and Palmer, the two you're presumably wanting in, started against Iceland and we were beaten 1-0.

Bad performances don't make them bad players.

Our front 4 have all had exceptional seasons, and 3 of them have been involved in our goals, the other has been our best attacking player in the last 2 matches.

We should stick with them and work on making it click, make changes during the match if they're needed.

Time and time again Southgate gets the easy draws.

We progress to big games, the team finds themselves in front and then they just sit back and we can all see what’s going to happen next but Southgate just seems paralysed and any changes come too late.

I really hope he can break the cycle but I don’t have a great deal of confidence in him.

How long did they have on the pitch?

In the very limited time they had they looked our best attacking options.
