Napoleon movie

Went to see this last night, what a letdown.

It should have been the next braveheart or gladiator.

It made napoleon to come across as an unorganised bumbling idiot.
Far from the general that the history books perceive .

So much history was skipped and too much detail on his love life.

What a missed opportunity 😞

Actually I kind of enjoyed it because I thought the movie reflected how he evolved and perished. Josephine was also very much part of the movie because the storyline was based on love and war. The storyline also depicted some of Napolean’s good and bad points so I think Ridley Scott did a good job here combining them the best way he could. Lastly I’d recommend going to see the movie in IMAX mode as some of the combat scenes are really incredible.

Would you say they are as good as Miyagi v the Cobra Kai on Halloween?

I don’t think the movie was an epic so maybe that answers your question? Scott has made better movies for instance “Gladiator” was a lot more entertaining but obviously fictional so perhaps that’s where Ridley should stay with?

Overall it’s all about an amazing French lad. Now apart from maybe Jacques Cousteau there ain’t that many amazing French lads out there that come to my mind, unless you count Kenny Everett’s “Marcel Marceau?!” lol 😆

I feel like there’s an amazing movie to be made about Napoleon, but no-one (apart from maybe Abel Ganz) has made it yet.

Maybe the story is too complicated and vast in scale and time. I haven’t seen this yet, but have low hopes based on the trailers, which is a shame because Joaquin Phoenix is pretty much my favourite actor and Ridley Scott is great.

Napoleon 1927

Yes the 7 hour silent film was made in France by Ganz. It only takes the story up to 1796. The director had planned for a series five more 5 hour films to complete the Napoleon story. No idea why they were never made 😀

I watched it yesterday and left feeling I needed to see it a second time as I was undecided what it was. It certainly wasn't a biopic. It was like a mishmash of two ideas with neither given the full attention. Perhaps it should have been called Napoleon & Josephine and the screenplay tweaked accordingly. 🤷‍♂️

Back in the 80s John Sessions did a one man show covering the life of Napoleon. Was hilarious if memory serves, particularly as I'm not a theatre fan.
