Neil warnock

I don’t think anyone thinks the club is beyond criticism, however, some of the comments made about the manager border on being nasty and vindictive. Criticise by all means but calling him a liar and other slurs isn’t appropriate and would the individuals who post these comments actually say them to his face??

I would quite happily, although I hope I never have the misfortune to meet him. He's a football manager, not the pope, and to suggest his results and character are beyond question is absolute rubbish.

I know he's managed to create this cult of personality through his bum bag, signed pictures, Liam Gallagher gif etc, but ultimately he's a past his best best football manager, who has a points total worse than a manager that was hounded out of the club, who thinks using club press conferences to make glib political statements is OK. His tendency to blame everyone else for his own failings is both infuriating and an insult to other professionals.

He's had far worse thrown at him, and Boro fans as a collective have treat more successful managers far far worse (McClaren as one).

Donny, I know my posts do wind up a fair number of people! Really no deliberate intent - I just have some strong opinions not universally agreed.

The 3 most recent acquisitions raise the standard of playing ability we have. Without doubt if the rest of the team perform regularly to their optimum level we could be in for a better season than our first 6 games indicated. Fingers crossed.

It’s obvious from your previous posts that you dislike Warnock, that’s your prerogative and you’re welcome to it. I don’t agree calling people liars without substantiated proof but do agree with your comment re McLaren, who whether fans like it or not has been our most successful manager.

Middlesbrough boss feels his side played 'like a Neil Warnock side' in Nottingham Forest win

Neil Warnock gave his reaction after Middlesbrough's 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest

Middlesbrough played like a Neil Warnock side in their Nottingham Forest win, according to the man himself.

The Boro boss was left delighted with his side's application as they left Forest with a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Andraz Sporar and Onel Hernandez.

In a much-improved performance from Saturday's defeat at Coventry, Boro worked hard throughout and looked lively in the final third after Warnock switched formation and handed full debuts to James Lea Siliki and Sporar.

Reacting after, the Boro boss said: “It was a good response and that’s what the Championship is all about. You’ve got to quickly get over your disappointments.

“I thought that was more like a Neil Warnock team really. We really worked for each other, put shifts in, but also played some good stuff at times and created some good chances.

“The first goal was the defining bit of class that settled it really so I’m glad I played him.”

And after the disappointment of the weekend at Coventry, Warnock felt the win and performance was much-needed on Wednesday evening.

Admitting he felt let down after the weekend, his players more than made amends at the City Ground.

“We needed that," Warnock said. "They let me down on Saturday - three or four of them - and I told them that in the dressing room.

“But nobody let me down tonight. One to 11 we were much better, played some good stuff at times and started a lot better too in a difficult game really.

“With the pressure on Forest, they were always going to come and have a go.

“Sporar’s goal just give us that bit of confidence though - a great ball from Tav as well.

“After that, I always felt we were in charge, but they did look dangerous at times.

“But it’s no coincidence that Peltier has played twice and we’ve kept clean sheets in both. Good habits.

“I was glad for Onel to score that goal as well. To score in front of the crowd as well, I think I’d have got booked if I were him tonight. Great feeling.”

There were many contenders for Boro man of the match, with Sporar's wonderful finish stealing the headlines and Dael Fry's commanding performance at the back particularly eye-catching.

But it was the drive of Matt Crooks that earned Warnock's star rating.

“I thought Crooks was man of the match tonight, absolutely outstanding.

“I know Sporar scores the goal but I thought Crooks was excellent.

“He did all the work that enabled us to get forward.

“The two wide lads were excellent - great ball from Tav for the goal and Onel was always a threat, so really pleasing tonight.”

The three points move Boro up to 11th in the Championship table, while the pressure stays on Forest boss Chris Hughton.

His side are rock bottom with just a single point from their opening seven games.

Warnock hopes Forest are patient and stick with the former Newcastle and Brighton head coach.

He said: “I said to Chris before the game, ‘I’ve never felt so nervous before a game, so god knows what you must think’.

“Even at my age, you still get those feelings.

“That’s one thing I won’t miss when I do pack in - those feelings an hour before kick-off.

“It’s gut-wrenching.

“It’s a difficult time for Chris right now, but it’s a good squad and they’ve got some good players coming back in.

“If they are patient, it’s only seven games gone so it’s nothing really.

“I’ve been in this game 42 years now so I’ve had my fair share of these moments. You’ve just got to believe in yourself.

“They’ve got a decent squad and sometimes you need a bit of luck. They were unlucky against Cardiff.

“I don’t think it was luck tonight. I thought we were better, if I’m honest, but I think we’re better than every side we play this year. I’m biased!

“Managers can’t feel sorry for each other though. It’s dog eat dog and a selfish game.”

People shouldn't forget that the fooball Forest played last night was probably slightly better than what we saw with Woodgate, Monk, Mowbray, Strachan and Southgate. We've been there and its not where we are at the moment.
We've had times under those managers where we showed little or no commitment and were terrified of playing in front of our own fans. They were awful times to watch Middlesbrough and its a damn sight better at the moment.

What complete and utter rubbish. Just because all fans don’t tow the club line - and the 11th commandment- Thou shalt not criticise the club in any way, shape or form- does not exclude any of them from wanting the best we can achieve.
Well it kind of was tongue in cheek, which I wouldn't have thought needed explaining. However some of the posters here are very vocal when we don't do well - fair enough, but they also refuse to give credit when we do, to the point they put a negative slant on a win.

"It's only one game" "If they'd have scored that we'd have got beat" "They might have got a draw if the keeper hadn't f'd up" "Forest are terrible so it means nothing".

All of that might be true but why be so negative just to try and support previous posts. If we started playing really attractive football and winning regularly (not beyond the realms) it still wouldn't be enough for some because they don't like Warnock. I haven't agreed with everything he's done and I'm also not sure if he can implement the plan the club have clearly got for the long term, but I want the team to win and when they do I'm very happy. It just occurs to me reading things here that isn't always the case for everyone.

Absolute rubbish. Nobody has it in for any Boro manager just for the sake of it. They might not be some peoples first choice but everyone gets behind them and supports Boro through thick and thin. I for one was pleasantly surprised by the football we played in the first half of last season, but the dross served up since then led me to believe my fears were justified and the teams NW played were as a result of injuries not what he would prefer to play. Let’s not get carried away with last nights result because apart from beating Forest who are a basket case there hasn’t been too much so far this season to change my mind.

Fans have the power to get rid of managers. Warnock’s said he reads forums and would leave if fans turned against him, like at Cardiff.
More Teesside humour, less conflict

I didn't say they did. Their reasons might be valid - but if you're saying some people aren't negative after a win because of their dislike for Warnock, then you obviously don't read this forum much.

Even you're saying let's not get carried away, and I'm not, but how many times have a team been without a win and then got their first against us? It was a positive performance and 3 points from a potential banana skin and historically a bogie team. We had a new striker who scored a belter and other new players who look better than what we've had for a while. Yet you're still saying Forest are a basket case. If we win on Saturday no doubt you and some others will be saying it's only Blackpool and it'll be because of the players, not the manager. At what point do we give some credit?

Criticise all you want but it's unhelpful to do it when we've won ffs.

I haven't read any of the above.

My take is we seem to have put together a really good squad, probably the most exciting in the last 5 years or so. Little to do with Knocker I suspect, more the new guy

Yep, it was only (a really, really rubbish) Forest team but there were some pointers of how this Boro team can play. Get Paddy back in central defence and I think we are good for the PO's minimum

Possibly the most upbeat I've been around a Boro team for 3 years or so. {That's us relegated then :eek:}

You deduced a lot from a few words!

Warnock's very canny, I've noticed more and more that he does this a lot. Not that I disagree with him but he will go out of his way to praise 'his' players or make a point, a bit like Rafa who is always playing politics in press conferences. Similar to when he alone spotted the genius of Isaiah Jones and decided to play him pre-season even though the club were trying to pack him off on loan, or the obvious thing with not wanting any more "foreign" players.

Most managers after the other night would surely go, yep, brilliant debut goal from the new lad and good debut from JLS, help them settle in. But we know they're not 'his' signings. With Warnock there's always a very slight agenda, like he's fighting a boardroom battle in public.

He is honest, but I think it's a bit overstated, I think he's more canny. You'd be hard pushed to single out Lee Peltier as the main reason for our couple of decent performances but you get the sense that he's making a point to whichever person in the boardroom he had to fight to sign Peltier.

I actually quite like Warnock and I reckon he'd be a great manager to play for, I bet he's 100% straight up behind the scenes. But it is a bit Rafa behaviour. Pulis does it too. Guess it's part of surviving in management for so long.

He’s the manager of our club and will go one day.
I’d like the clubs to do well but don’t like his behaviour.
After the Forest game for instance ‘Grant was brilliant - I’d had a word with him after Saturday’
Why in earth does he have to say the last bit?
That’s his style - its all about him when it goes well and its about the players when it doesn’t/

Not a fan of that style

Ive noticed this with Warnock too - the team has a bad game and 'his' players get a pep talk, the rest that are not 'his' players are thrown under the bus.

And with Akpom last year - he was his top summer signing, then when he's gash he wants nothing to do with him and he only signed him coz there was nobody else.

personally i just want the team to get promoted, dont really care who the manager is - but I wont be sad when he leaves either, dont really get the hero worship with him

😂 Hear that interview today?

“Pelts” best player on the pitch “by a mile”, not a mention for anyone else, and “disappointed” that we haven’t got any defenders on the bench - despite being the manager, who buys the players for the bench.

Time to start thinking about putting the dinosaur and his team out to pasture, we have the players but no evidence of anything happening Monday to Friday on the training pitch, I doubt he will make it til Christmas.
