New EFL TV Deal Implications

It could depend on how the deal is structured - I presume they have to show every club - do they have to show every club home and away?
I guess they will have to show every club home and away a certain number of times, but they will have a lot of leeway to mix it up. I’ll guarantee If certain teams were in the league at that time, Boro v Southampton, Plymouth etc would be moved. As we know from a few years back, Leeds were nearly always on live

Clubs can be specific at the start of the season for a set number of fixtures. ie if there is a big event on like Great North Run Newcastle home will not clash that day. Or, several years ago Plymouth v Boro had to be a weekend (sadly Sunday is a weekend of course and a Bank Holiday Monday as we found to our cost).

by the looks of it this could be an unpopular opinion but I think it should actually be a significant improvement on the current situation. Yes there will be fewer games at 3pm Saturday, but sky will have set which ones will be televised and moved much further in advance so people can plan.

At the moment when the fixtures come out there’s no point booking cheap transport or accommodation as the games can move at very short notice. With this deal we should know everything in stone until Christmas from the start of the season.

That would be a silver lining if it was so but correct me if I am wrong but I do not read any obligations or timetable. Could you not say the same for the Premier that SKY/BT could announce months in advance? But they don't.

Nothing new, the football institutions along with various television platforms, have always taken the customer for granted. There's no redress to the situation, we like it or lump it, as the customer is powerless in these situations. It will affect my family members, who travel from Manchester to the Riverside for games, and book transport early to get discounts, only to find the schedule has changed.

Well the thing is, it's not just about discounted transport, it's also about being able to get there or, more likely, get back at all when fixtures are moved (see Rob's comments about Yusuf above).

I belive all first half of the season games up until the third round of FA Cup will be selected before the season even starts. But aye sounds like alot of Friday nigtr Monday night Saturday lunch Sunday anytime games and the Saturday 3pm will be rare

The 6 week rule is absolutely critical for long distance public transport travel.

I also think clubs need to give back some of the new extra revenue to fans, in form of price freezes on ticket prices. Special offers for televised games say credits for season ticket holders and reduced ticket prices for non season ticket holders.

I also like to see MFC reburbish parts of the external and internal stadium to make it look fresher. Its 28 years old now.

I do feel for Yusuf and I am in similar position. I do have somewhere to stay on Teesside for say 8pm kick offs but if I didn't have that I would go to less home games. I do drive, but if I relied on trains it would be difficult without using hotels and then moving games becomes a nightmare.

I agree there are a lot of "pirates" watching games and I don't mean Bristol Rovers fans - possibly 50% of viewers?

yeah this is correct.

the new coverage will include all of the following live 100%: opening day, closing day, all weekdays, all bank holidays and boxing day, EFL cup 100% coverage of every game, EFL trophy games too 100%. plus all playoffs as usual.

the ifollow and red button services will be closed and replaced by a Sky streaming service. there will also be minimum number cameras at each game so it is not just 1 camera per match. think it is 4 for the championship and league 1 and 2 for league 2.
How will they manage to find enough impartial commentators and pundits?

It also means a decision about buying a season ticket for those of us who live further away, depending on the number of games moved it might not make financial sense to buy one.
Any evening games mean either 2 days off work for an overnight stay as I cannot get back to Edinburgh straight after, or not travel down for it at all.
We've had 10 non-weekend home games this season which will probably get worse under this new deal.

P.S - I will still buy a season ticket but there will be quite a few fans who travel further with decisions to make

For the record, and to recognise his commitment, Yusuf was at Luton, Rotherham and the Coventry home game.
