New improved rogers bid

Or alternatively our other young players see Rogers get his move and think "ah, all I have to do is sulk and they'll sell me for a low offer".

Dangerous precedent to set.

I think it's a balance, we can't be accepting an offer below value or its open season on any of prospects.

However if a fair offer comes in you don't want to be standing in a players way.

What a "fair" offer is, is subjective to a point. Rogers and his agent might have a different view to the club.

But as long as the stance doesn't look unreasonable to others in the game, then rejecting bids that are too low shouldn't put any other prospects off joining.

The fact he's only been here 6 months and already is attracting firm interest from a top prem side suggests we are a very good bet for a stepping stone to the prem.

Good points 👍🏻

Even if we don’t even consider offers in Jan and tell clubs to come back in the summer, it still shows we’re a good club to come to for young players

Showed real quality today - that back flick was superb and he nearly got us the winner with that bit of skill on the edge of the box
I can certainly see why Villa want him but we sold Bamford for 10 million which I still rage about - is he as good as Bamford - I would say he will be better in time
I thought he was out best player today.

They're buying huge potential, if this goes through, which as yet hasn't been realised, but I'm reasonably confident that he will grow to become a very good player indeed.

If much rather he stayed here, played every week at a club and a level that allows that growth.

We're not used to finding ourselves in this situation really, but it's difficult to determine the valuation of a young player with potential - that's the kind of player we are now aiming to bring to the club.

I'd imagine ideally the plan will be to develop these young players so that we get one or two good seasons out of them at least, then sell on for a big transfer fee.

I’m really hacked off about this. The timing is dreadful for us. It’s a proper test of our “model” and resilience. I’m convinced this lad is going to be top level, and I’d hate us to undersell him. I don’t think it’s possible, barring serious injury, for his value to drop over the next 6-18 months.
I’d be questioning the business acumen of people at the club if we sell for a low fee.

I simply wouldn't sell to them. Any club that sold us Rudy for 6mil should be blocked forever 😂
One turd in a basket of gems can spoil the sparkle but over the years Ehiogu, Southgate, Boateng, Kerr, Glover❤️, Burke and Poole. Wow, I feel sort of ashamed losing Rogers to them for a fee.

Repeatedly bidding for a player and it leaking out are classic moves by clubs/agents to unsettle the player.
His agent might advise him that Boro are being unfair in rejecting the bid. If the player then makes it clear he really wants the move then the Boro's chance of getting the fee they want is shot to pieces.

Maybe it is different during the January window - the club can maybe hold out until the summer with the lad being on such a long contract.

If he wants to go he’ll go, tbf £10m is nowt for Villa. Symptom of the modern game. He’ll be playing for Walsall in five years if he takes this move, but he will!

Why would he go before we exit the League Cup? Why would we sell before then?
And there was absolutely nothing wrong with his attitude or application today.

I agree if the player is an established star on wads of cash but if Rogers is unhappy then I cant see how disruptive he could be in the dressing room we have. If the deal hasnt already been agreed I think Villa will come back with what Gibson wants. His agent only seems to have half a dozen clients so doesn’t seem to be a big fish. Hardly Jorge Mendes

I’m not so sure, he’s 6 months into a 4 year contract. We could quite happily turn down any offer for him, what’s he going to do? Sulk and not play for 3 1/2 years?

It is, but in this case I suspect it's his agent rather than the club.

We apparently have a very good relationship with Villa, so it makes no sense for them to jeopardise that for a player that's almost certainly going to be an academy fixture for now.

On our part I'm guessing we have simply knocked back the bids, no more or less than that in terms of engagement.

I get the feeling we must have accepted a bid seeing how he went to all ends of the stadium clapping on his own at the end. He certainly thinks he is going anyway.
