New improved rogers bid

3 bids in 48hrs. They definitely want him. Also will almost certainly get him. Reported around initially 4-5mil. That's with City getting 20%

That's hardly 'worth it'. I imagine it may get to upwards of 8-10mil. That's probably with a variety of ad ons. So we won't be getting that figure up front.

Hopefully we will add a sizeable sell on clause / England cap etc.

I guess it's exactly what our new business model wants. Buy young players on the cheap and 'flip' for a massive profit. This has probably come quicker than we expected. Rav will be the next one 😔
Massive profit …5 mil

So less than we paid for latte lath

We shouldn't be accepting an offer any less than £10m for him.

It could become awkward for us however if Rogers is wanting to leave. Last thing we want is a situation where we stand firm and reject their bids, only for Rogers to spit his dummy out.

And other potential young signings to think we might not be their best stepping stone en route to the prem

Can they just f*ck off. Such an unnecessary distraction. There's no amount they'd be realistically willing to offer in this window that I'd accept, cause they're likely not going to be going that high for him, and it's just not in our interest between it being less than ideal to lose him mid-season, and if that stories of a "hefty on" sell on fee for City are true then the amount of profit we're likely to make is probably not worth it right now anyway.

On the upside, I did like a thing I read yesterday from some Villa reporter that said:
Morgan Rogers trained with his Middlesbrough teammates as usual earlier today and will not force a move to #AVFC, even if the possibility of linking up with Unai Emery excites him.

He’ll be gone by the end of the transfer window, would be handy if we could get a loan back.

Showed real quality today - that back flick was superb and he nearly got us the winner with that bit of skill on the edge of the box
I can certainly see why Villa want him but we sold Bamford for 10 million which I still rage about - is he as good as Bamford - I would say he will be better in time

Or alternatively our other young players see Rogers get his move and think "ah, all I have to do is sulk and they'll sell me for a low offer".

Dangerous precedent to set.

I think it's a balance, we can't be accepting an offer below value or its open season on any of prospects.

However if a fair offer comes in you don't want to be standing in a players way.

What a "fair" offer is, is subjective to a point. Rogers and his agent might have a different view to the club.

But as long as the stance doesn't look unreasonable to others in the game, then rejecting bids that are too low shouldn't put any other prospects off joining.

The fact he's only been here 6 months and already is attracting firm interest from a top prem side suggests we are a very good bet for a stepping stone to the prem.

I’m really hacked off about this. The timing is dreadful for us. It’s a proper test of our “model” and resilience. I’m convinced this lad is going to be top level, and I’d hate us to undersell him. I don’t think it’s possible, barring serious injury, for his value to drop over the next 6-18 months.
