New Royal Navy TV advert

That advert is not new and I’m pretty sure it’s regional and only shown in certain areas.
That style of advert is shown everywhere, but the kid may be from Swindon for southern tv areas, or West Bromwich for the midlands etc.

Born on Tees-side, born in Teesside. The former is a geographical feature, consisting of a river and the land in close proximity. It was in common use before the County Borough of Teesside, a local authority with a defined boundary, came in to being.

That’s what I mean. It won’t have a young lad from Teesside if you’re watching in Truro.

Live on the South Coast and you see the Carlisle /Blyth/Teesside /St Andrews ones constantly.

There are others... Lincoln, Blackpool and Brixton but I've not seen them on the telly down here.

More than likely due to Covid, there's been a huge growth in RN recruitment. Part One trainees used to go to HMS Raleigh, but now they had to open up BRNC Dartmouth and HMS Collingwood to new entries.
About time too... Ships Companies have been gapped to büggery for years.

It's always the St Andrews advert I see.
I've seen the odd London one too.

But I'm pretty sure the British military recruits disproportionately in the North and Scotland, so I'm not surprised that the adverts target there too.

When I joined in the early nineties there seemed to be way more jocks, scousers, and North easterners than any one else joining.. i put that down to Thatchers Britain.

Its shown in the Welsh Marches with the Northern BREXIT town profiles. No other regional ever shown when I see it. I am pretty sure its for the the whole of England and Wales. The Scarborough version is a young woman. I am sure there is a deliberate effort to focus on the so called left behind areas of the North, because job prospects are not as good. It was true years ago I remember reading in the 1970s that the Middlesbrough recruiting office was the biggest in the UK. From Teesside area I had one counsin in ther Army and two counsins (one female) in the Royal Navy and a step counsin in the RAF. I also had a brother in the Paras for 4 years. I thought this was normal until I moved away from the area and found it was rare to have a relative in the Armed Services.

I did see a roadside poster for the Army in Birmingham - it was the famous Snowflake poster appealing to young computer gamers to join the Army and work in IT. In my local City they have closed down the Army Recruitment Office which had been open for many years possibly due to new forms of recruitment and possibly less interest.

Watching the TV doc on the Royal Navy Aircraft carrier it looked not a bad life for a young person, if you can put up with limited space and been around the same people 24-7. The Royal Navy haven't really been in a battle since 1982. The Army looks more dangerous.

The lad's from Billingham. Know his mam and knew his grandparents, although haven't seen him since he was little. He and my kids used to play together Dunno how I missed this thread.
