NFL Championship weekend

Couldn't be bothered staying up & watching the games, are they worth downloading the full game or will the 15 minutes of highlights on youtube be sufficient?

Just watched the highlights of the niners win, incredible stuff.

Who fave for the superbowl then? Be a late on being in LA!

Running the clock down is an integral part of the game.

It’s up to the defence to stop them - if they can’t the clock keeps going if the offence play it right.

KC we’re running the clock down in the fist quarter with that long drive - it’s up to the Ravens to stop them

Delighted the Chiefs made it, especially as I've been invited to a neighbor's house for his (apparantly legendary) superbowl party. Another neighbor is from San Fran so there will be a bit of banter for sure.

It's the last 2 minutes of performing a quarterback kneel and letting the clock run down before repeating for the next 3 downs that I hate. Nothing any defence can do about that.

They could if they had kept their time outs.

Or even if their team were winning the game.

In effect they are actually running the ball, they just don’t have to go anywhere.

Just watched the highlights and agree that Campbell let his emotions get ahead of him.

Gut wrenching for the Lions fans but hell of an effort from the 49ers.
Crazy call and smacked of ego and bravado, I get the first time he tried as it was still early in the game and it was prob worth the risk but then to do it again with a FG in the bag was madness do after the first one failed.

Saw this on Twitter as a counter balance argument

On the season:
-Lions converted 80% of 4th and 3 or less (4th-best)
-SF allowed 71.4% of 4th and 3 or less (28th).

Michael Badgley has not attempted a kick outdoors since 2022. The decisions were totally fine.

But Yearbyred, this was not a one-off season game where some bravery one way or other
affects the result. This was a Do-or-Die playoff matchup with a trip to the Super Bowl at stake!
Dan Campbell was unnecessarily wreckless with his game management.

Mike DeCourcy, Sporting News perhaps best describes my views on this…

“At halftime, the Lions held a 17 point lead after brilliant performances by running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs and tight end Sam Laporta. The 49ers started the second half with the ball, and they burned through nine plays to slice just 3 points off the deficit.

St. Brown’s run was the seventh play of the ensuing Lions drive which advanced the ball to the San Francisco 28. So, doing the addition even the most challenged mathematicians who follow NFL football can handle - seven yards for the snap and placement, 10 yards to clear the end zone - it was clear that the Lions were a 45-yard field goal away from wiping out all the effort and execution the 49ers had invested in their comeback attempt. They would only have a third of the game remaining to conjure the three scores necessary to tie things up or take the lead.”

I merely posted the argument for going for it, just for some balance. I’d already said I thought he got it wrong with not trying the FG to go 3 scores up but it was not certain the kicker would make it.

The fumble and the drop on 4th down were killer plays. No doubt Detroit contributed to their own defeat.

He’s now saying the Lions will probably never be this close to a Super Bowl again😁
All the more reason as to why he should have managed yesterday more carefully!

You can argue all you want but in the end the Niners really were too strong for the Lions. Their late TD came in what we call garbage time. If the lead had been a TD, I doubt very much the Lions would have been allowed to march all the way down field for the TD which brought them within 3 points. The second half wasn’t even close.

The first 10 minutes of that second half were indeed close. Simply said, with 20 minutes in the game to go Dan Campbell recklessly denied his team the opportunity to go back ahead by 17 points. Lions had maintained their momentum up to that point and could have quickly re-established their three score margin. Then came that totally unnecessary 4th down conversion failure, Niners said thank you very much and Lions began their unravel. Play calling, turnovers and clock management are vital parts to winning football games. Never said that Niners weren’t the stronger of the two teams.

I’m sure you’ll have a fantastic time, judging by the pics you showed me of his last party. You may need to ask the Head of your school for a day off to recover. Oh, wait a minute…..
