NFL Championship weekend

So here we go, down to the final four. I honestly can’t see anything but home wins in both championship games but perhaps Kansas City have the bit between their teeth after their crazy win over Buffalo last weekend? While the Baltimore Ravens will be heavily fancied KC can provide the upset if Mahomes and Kelce hold their nerve and exploit the Ravens number one defense.

However, the injury report from the KC camp doesn’t look good with several players nursing different injuries.

The biggest injury worry for KC is Isaiah Pacheco who has toe and ankle injuries— he’d be a huge loss if he couldn’t make it.

Mike Edwards is another who is suffering with concussion and with the NFLs concussion protocol being very vague I’d still expect him to play in this winner takes all event.

The Ravens meanwhile don’t really have any major injury concerns and while no one can argue that the Ravens have been the number team in the AFC and perhaps the NFL it would be foolish to suggest that they will easily get by the Chiefs.

The Chiefs who despite an aging squad
have probably one of the NFLs best head coach with Andy Reid, who has been prolific in his 11 seasons at Arrowhead.

In Reid, the Chiefs have a schemer of a coach who has a game plan perhaps to find a way to win against the NFLs stingiest defense and not forgetting the incredible QB talent of Lamar Jackson.

Jackson, who is probably one of the fastest athletes in the NFL, and operates as a second running back can be so elusive it almost becomes impossible for the opponent to stop him, so the task for the Chiefs is finding a way to hold the Ravens to field goals.

In the NFC Championship game the Lions travel to San Francisco where the Lions will be the underdog against the number 2 rated offense in the league. Actually the betting line is only a TD but you’d have to believe that for the Lions to win this one the Niners will have to turnover the ball more than three times for the upstart Lions to win.

The Niners have a reasonable healthy squad although Deebo Samuel has been struggling with a shoulder injury which may keep him to a limited role against Detroit.

The Niners probably got out of jail last week thanks to their defense which has been a focal point of their 2023 season, second to the Ravens for the fewest points allowed they cover extremely well and are incredibly strong inside the red zone.

The Lions have never been to the Superbowl so they have a lot to aim for but one wonders if the pressure will be too much for Jarrod Goff and co?

The Lions have been well coached this season under Dan Campbell who isn’t afraid to go for low percentage opportunities with the Lions attempting the second most 4th downs. Their main point of attack will come from their running attack as well as QB Jerrod Goff’s ability to make big plays but he isn’t the most mobile of QBs, so expect the Niners defense to try and flush Goff out of his comfort zone and sack him when the opportunity arrives.

I've enjoyed the Lions this year, but I think they'll be a bit short Vs the 49ers.

I don't think the Ravens are the clear favourites that I think you do. I do think they're favourites, but I think KC's playoff experience is valuable.

V likely a 49ers/Ravens final
But I'd love the Lions to make it
KC have been lucky to make it this far

Love to see the Lions get to the SB, but think at home SF will just have a bit too much for them.

Dan Campbell has done a superb job there 👍

Can't see the Ravens losing to Taylor Swift.

Gutted the bills won’t be there but two great games with interesting challenges in each of them.

It should be plain sailing in San fran but Detroit are a tough side that won’t go away easily.

As for the AFC game it’s anyone’s really ravens have the home field momentum but in mahones KC have the X factor player that shines in this rarified air.

Going to be good.

Bills need a new kicker! That was gutting

The missed field goal on their last drive could have only tied things up whilst a winning TD on that same drive was there with good play.
Sadly though the drive was poorly executed with riskier unnecessarily long incomplete passes playing directly into the hands of the KC defence.

Of the four games played last weekend, only the Ravens dominated their game.

The 49ers were lucky to beat the Packers and were not convincing at all, will be interesting if the Lions win the toss and elect to receive the ball, and put the 49ers on the back foot, chasing the game, that was a good ploy used by the Packers last week.

Bills - Chiefs could have gone either way, Mahomes got out of some tricky situations, as he always does in the big occasions.

My predictions,
Ravens will be too strong for KC and will steam roll into the SB, the other game depends on which 49ers turn up, and how the Lions settle into the 1st quarter, this could be a shock result.

Still sticking with my predictions since the wild card rounds.
Mahomes won’t be able to drag the chiefs any further and Goff hasn’t been able to perform as well outside.

I was watching the previous time the Niners played the Lions in the playoffs back in 1983 on YouTube, the days of Roger Craig and Joe Montana. Like most pro sports games the quality back then wasn’t that good with both teams missing a hat full of chances not to mention I think the Lions had five turnovers.

The field goal kicking on both sides was absolutely shocking with both teams missing easy kicks from 40 yards, the lions missing the game winner at the end.

Ravens are the better overall team than the Chiefs but you can never count out Mahomes. Think the Ravens will win but hope they don’t.

NFC - not really sure. 49ers at home and have a lot of big play potential but Lions are on a roll do you never know.

I’d love Detroit to make it but it’s going to be tough.

As for the afc I think it’s too close to call could be a tight one.

Mahones the battle hardened “vet” if the post season even at his young age v the god given talented Lamar and his unique athleticism

Its hard to write off KC with Mahomes but Baltimore just look like a far more well rounded team, I've just noticed Willie Gay from the Chiefs is inactive so The Chiefs are going to find it more difficult to stop Lamar Jackson running as well.

I can see both games being relatively close but I can't see past both home teams tonight.
