Nickleback

Jesus Christ. Pipe down ffs!! I did not say that YOU said the OP knows nothing about music. The OP states that he had a conversation in which he told someone who was a fan of Nickleback that he thought they were sh1te. Then he was told back that he knows nothing about music, which struck me as hilarious. It doesn't even need an explanation.

I understand the structure or formula of songs, I am a musician who's been around the block studying/performing, and did a guitar degree at a school in London many moons ago. ;) 😁

We will just have to agree to disagree on Nickleback I'm afraid, no big deal :ROFLMAO: .... but musically, lyrically they are a limited band compared to Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam wrote a lot more songs after their Ten album!! Songs like Even Flow, Alive were decent hits but the band evolved sound-wise from those tracks quite quickly. 😜 I'd say Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard, Mick McCready, Jeff Ament and Matt Cameron each have more soul in their little fingernail than the mighty Nickleback do. Albums like Vs, No Code and Binaural were brilliant, though Ten is still a decent album .. even to this day it still sounds good.
No, you pipe down ffs

My misunderstanding.

It wasn't my intention to compare the relative merits or otherwise of Nickleback v Pearl Jam. My point was that Nickleback are no worse, and in fact a lot better, than lots of bands that are revered and certainly don't deserve the $hit that gets flung at them.
Also I don't think that they're anymore musically and lyrically limited than most other bands either. In fact lyrically they're way better than most. (Like it or loath you can't argue that the lyrics for Rock Star are very clever)

Yes, there may be some outstanding bands but I'm not trying to make out that Nickleback are in that category. Although, admittedly I don't understand the structure or formula of songs, what with me not being a musician and never having been around the block studying & performing. Neither do I have a guitar degree.

...........................although I do have an engineering degree so I know a bit about metal.......... if that counts 😉

But yes, we'll agree to disagree. Like I said its a moot argument. People like what they like.

Haha (y) (y)

I say the metal degree counts, mate.

I just don't like Nickelback, I really cannot stand them but as yer say, people are entitled to enjoy whatever they like!! As much as I revere Pearl Jam and they had a big influence on me from an early age, I have never been able to class myself as a proper fan, mind. Still have not seen them live. I had tickets to see them in Manchester a few years ago and didn't turn up due to something that came up, preventing me from traveling that very day. What a waste!

To be honest I thought Nickelback had split up, as I had not heard of them at all in recent years. I thought they were one of many bands that were around in the 00s for a few top 10 hits then disappeared! Then again I wouldn't have noticed would I not being a fan and all.

I never get the hate that Nickleback get. They are far better than lot's of popular so called classic bands .......ie. Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Kiss, Saxon, Twisted Sister, Pearl Jam, Bon Jovi, Linkin Park, System of a Down, Journey, Foreigner, Rage Against the Machine........erc. etc..... and everything GnR have done since Appetite. All utter **** gravy.
Nickelback better than Pearl Jam and Rage Against The Machine? Are you having a laugh?

I spent several years running a local rock night during Nickelback's fame period and I cant stand them, absolute beige music. Straight to room 101.

Here's a list of bands that are less worthy of being shat on than Nickleback:

First of all at no point did I say to the OP that "he knows nothing about music??" ............ so try reading the thread before commenting :p

Secondly at no point did I say that I was into Nickleback, in fact I said "I have to say they're far from my favourites, and certainly not a hill to die on" ............ so try reading the thread before commenting. :p

I would say that Nickleback are no more or less creative or formulaic than most rock bands. That is just old oft rolled out cliche. However I get how they may be viewed as mediocre. It's probably where I'd put them, a bit meh. but when I saw them live they were excellent and certainly not deserving of the hate they attract.

As for Pearl Jam, yeh I knew that would get some bites. tbh I'm just not into "Les Miserables" music. No wonder Cobain blew his brains out.

Even Flow, Jeremy, Alive ....... they're the same song. Listen to them back to back and see if you can spot the join.

Okay, I know it's moot discussion as people like what they like so no point arguing about who is better/worse than who. So I'll just leave you with this pile of steaming dog poo from Pearl Jam. Get your lighters out and enjoy

That's a cover version but one of my favourite PJ songs.

Personally I think they’re awful

But it’s all subjective isn’t it? - One man’s Nickelback is another man’s Pink Floyd. That’s why I never really hammer people for their taste in music.

If something resonates within someone in a positive way then that’s all that matters.

Alberta is red neck central. Nickelback, country and western and then more country. It really is a bad place for music but I did see Motorhead in Banff once. Not surprising that most on here share my views of them. Can't believe they have made a living with the same song played with different lyrics over many albums.

The best comment I heard is Nickelback are Canada's Beatles. I almost spat my coffee out with laughter.

I do like Canadians but they get so testy about their culture if someone says anything that is perceived negative. Then they say sorry. :)

You obviously think very highly of your own 'music knowledge'.
You have an opinion, same as anyone else. Although yours seems to be a quite confrontational opinion.
People like what people like. 'Knowledge' is irrelevant. I'm no Nickelback fan but it has become almost compulsory to not like them.
