No more Red Alert

Just seen a message from BBC Tees that the Red Alert podcast has been binned with immediate effect.

No explanation at all.

Says the coverage is still available in full on Sounds but tbh that’s a right pain.

Really enjoyed this little bit of home away from home

Thought it was odd nothing came out from the Swansea game.

BBC cuts but they can still afford Michael McIntyre and eleventy episodes of Eastenders every week.

Thought Digital was the future.

You seem to be putting it down to cuts, but it might just be that not enough people were listening to it and hence they don't see the point in putting it out. I imagine Boro Breakdown is more popular to be honest and they maybe don't want to compete (and of course Dana is on both). There's always You Are My Boro as well.

Loads of podcasts out there…
Boro Breakdown
FMTTM
Boropolis

You are my Boro

It’s probably as AT says they weren’t getting enough Listeners.

Seems unique too - I don’t think Radio Newcastle do one?

The BBC are really desperate to get listeners to their mainstream podcasts though(the one with a picture of Laura K on it puts me off straight away)

I watched Newscast last week and for all people say she is a staunch Tory (and she may be) they spent the entire time taking the p1ss out of Sunak.

There are also those off the Red, the Cat and the Toon (radio stations), Andy Campbell does a show on there with some interesting guests.

They get the chats with Carrick and the players though which none of the other podcasts do.

True, they are probably just wanting people to use Sounds tbh. You'd be able to swipe through to the post-match stuff quite easily, but yeah I do accept it isn't quite as hassle free as the current format.

Radio Newcastle have total sport mon-fri 2 hour show i think. Have alot more to talk about than Tees just covering Boro and Pools

I thought it was just the post match chat edited into a podcast, so surly can't cost that ,much to produce

Do they have a dedicated podcast though, I don’t know of another BBC local radio station that does

Ahem Darlo!

Of course I suppose they cover the latest beheadings and stonings for their sponsors?

When do darlo get a mention they arent even represented on the weekly fans panel. Probably non-league snobbery even though Pools are back to being non-league

They usually get a mention when they are playing Scarborough or Spenny

I listen to the Borobreakdown pod. What they do is really well done (did they win an award this year?), but frankly the Red Alert edit of the post match is perfect for conveying immediacy and access without having to bother with Sounds.

It may well be audience figures but I see audience numbers for things at work and frankly for all the good BBC 4 is supposed to do they could bin that and almost literally no one would know.

You Are My Boro is the best Boro podcast out there in my opinion. I don't mind Boro Breakdown but it can be a bit too stat based for me, I find that quite boring after a few minutes.
