Noel Edmonds - documentary last night revealing

Firstly, I have to say I was a fan on his when he was on Radio one. His tv shows? Although they were successful they bordered on silliness! Still made him a mint.

To me, one of his best shows was on Sky. Christmas Day - called Noel’s Christmas Presents. He arranged a “gift” for recipients who through illness, bad luck, tragedy deserved a little something. Found the programme some of his best work.

However what came across last night was what a complex character he was. I had heard if he did personal appearances if the time stipulated was for 45 minutes - that’s what you got. Equally heard he wasn’t that nice on a number of these.

Sometimes the true reflection of the person differs so much from the public persona offered.

Is he still a massive crank?

"The problem intensified when Edmonds started to claim on Twitter that an electromagnetic pulse device, made by EMP Pad Ltd costing £2,315, was “a simple box that slows ageing, reduces pain, lifts depression and stress and tackles cancer. Yep tackles cancer!”."

Cure for cancer scam?

A fan of Noel Edmonds ? I've heard it all now 🤣

My colleague, a Brit who relocated to Brisbane 20+ years ago, worked for him for a period of time - Edmonds had set up a tech company specialising in unified communications (when this was in its infancy). He speaks incredibly highly of him - says he is bright, visionary and a really decent person, which surprised me as I always thought he was a clown.

Not a clown, I work quite closely with him.

Lovely bloke, hadn’t changed in 30 years (I first met him working at RAF Northolt).

Yes a visionary, and very down to earth

Lost a fortune investing in the failed theme park Mr Blobby World I recall and had to return to TV doing Deal or No Deal. Emigrated to NZ and has set up a network of Community Digital radio stations.

I've read a few interviews with him and it seems to me that he's a very intelligent person. He explained to a journalist once that people tend to make comments on various subjects without actually knowing anything. He had a saying for it, but pretty much advocates getting a real understanding on something before attempting to talk about it. Britain in the last decade has had the exact opposite happening in politics and places such as TV news related programmes (Good Morning Britain probably the most relevant example).

Didn't use to mind him until he overplayed his part on Deal or No Deal.
Tried turning a simple but enjoyable game of chance into something it wasn't. Invoking the power of positive thinking, utilising cosmic energy and discussing various strategies for the box selection.
And the influence of fancy dress over the numbers.

Not my cup of tea as a presenter but you never really know what people are like when they're 'off' unless you've met them. Saw an interesting tweet yesterday from a guy who had worked with him and was approached by those programme makers. Said he'd asked them before contributing for an assurance that it wasn't going to be a hatchet job on Edmonds - and they never contacted him back.

I don't think he "had" to return to TV, he initially turned down deal or no deal as he was working on other things - the theme parks cost him money but he's had a pretty long career before that and it was all under umbrella companies. Don't know about the main one, but the Morecambe one cost the council 2.5m and they ended up paying Edmonds 900k in damages for closing it. He was quite prolific between tv and radio and other ventures, and owned the rights / format to many of his outputs

This will always be my favourite clip of Edmonds
