North Tyneside Food Bank

A politician from the ruling party of the last 11 years celebrating the work of food banks whilst completely ignoring the policies and practices of his government that has created and massively increased the need to feed through charity the poorest and most disadvantaged of the nation. Food banks get hammered on Facebook and Twitter by the ‘have’s’ for meeting the needs of the lazy and great unwashed. Data tells us the majority of service users are the working poor but this is neatly ignored as it does t support the narrative. . Sometimes the state of humanity and lack of care for your fellow man in this country really does make me so sad
Exactly this.

The overwhelming majority of people using Food Banks in the area I work in are working and seriously struggling.

If you were already struggling "a bit" , and then the cost of your energy bills shot up, at precisely the same time as petrol shot up, you could well go from "getting by" to "not getting by at all".

Just those 2 items are now costing me around 120 quid a month MORE than this time last year, and I am a single bloke. I use very little energy compared to a family. So if I was on the breadline, I would now be well below it.

As a few have said, the existence of foodbanks is a direct consequence of government policy. Policy that deliberately aimed for those who needed help and not only remove it but went beyond. How many countries in Europe, indeed the world have a two child policy, for example? Only England. How many countries introduced a policy to charge people in social housing for having the audacity of a spare room? Compare that, with the the countless second homes across the country of the very rich.
