Not feeling the Coronation at all…

I would consider myself a bit of a Royalist having enjoyed the last few Royal Weddings and was glued to the TV all day for the late Queen’s funeral but I just can’t get into the Coronation at all.

I quite like Charles in all fairness but I think it is the way Camilla has been propelled into the role of ‘Queen’ rather than ‘Queen Consort’ or Princess Camilla’ that has soured the whole ceremony. Phillip was a Prince, I think with Comilla’s history she should have held a similar title, not just Queen.

I also wonder if it is due to it only been 6 months on from Queen Elizabeth’s funeral? He could have waited a bit longer, much like his late mother did.

I won’t be watching it live. I’m off for a bike ride. I’ll record it and watch the highlights later on tonight.

Who’s watching and who’s not bothered??

EDIT - it might be like quiche… no one would choose quiche, especially a Coronation Quiche!!!!

I am quite optimistic the viewing figures will be low. I also think giving her the title of queen will backfire on her relatively modest popularity. I am assuming that giving camilla the title of Queen means she will get a state funeral at some point. Shes a divorcee and hes on marriage no 2 as well and now shes a queen we all have to bow down to her the whole thing is absolutely farcical

I'm honestly not interested in this, I'm neither a lover or a hater of the royal family, I just see it as bit of an inconvenience I guess.

I completely understand that the royal family bring a lot of tourism into the country which is a good thing but I just don't really get the hype of a coronation. I'd rather just have a normal weekend of football 🤣

It's also baffled me a little bit how there is premier League games on today when the championship got cancelled.

I’m not convinced there is a net gain from Tourism. I think it’s lazy statement a lot of people make to justify their existence.

Tourists aren’t booking in meet and greets with the Royal Family. They may go to see the palace etc. but that would still happen anyway without them.

The problem is of course is that these things can hard to quantify.

I won’t be bowing down to her, or any of them. I’m morallly and intellectually better than all of them and you probably are too

London hotels are at near full capacity all year anyway, it’s nonsense that we’ve suddenly found 100s of thousands of rooms for more tourists for this occasion. It’s usual PR bollox with zero evidence intended to fool the foolish

Btw Paris is the most visited city in Europe.

I don’t think I will be watching much of it but that is more about the final prep for our small get together. The weather doesn’t look good so we have decided to hold it in doors.

The food is all cooked , there are plenty of quiches (not the coronation ones), pies and sausage rolls. The lady next door is doing the salads, another neighbour just been over with cakes and the wife is preparing the sandwiches as I type and there is also a large section of cheese.

I’ve brought the shed fridge in doors and that is full of beer, our fridge is full of Wainwright’s & wine and we are all going to have a good time.

One lady knocked last night and said she won’t be coming due to her being a Republican. She handed over a bag with a bottle of Prosecco in it, coronation short bread biscuits, cakes, chocolates and hoped we all enjoy ourselves.

Edit: I forgot to mention that great British staple 'Chicken Tikka Masala', I've cooked enough to sail a small battleship. ;)

She can call herself Empress of the Universe for all I care. Is it really much more ridiculous than calling someone King or Queen based on nothing more than who their mum was?

Don't know why people care if they've been married before, its 2023, so have half the country. Is it something to be embarrassed about or mean you're somehow devalued as a person? It's as if normal logic flies out of the window when it comes to the royal family.

And of course no-one has to bow down to anyone in this country. If people want to debase themselves in that way, that's up to them of course. It's a free country.

Whether anyone approves on here or not wont change the fact that today is history in the making, this tradition is many centuries old and I doubt it will be the last. It undoubtedly will evolve though and eventually I suspect people will have their way and a republic of GB be formed with a popular elected President.

I wonder who the first President will be, whether they are born yet, I’d put money on them being very wealthy and powerful, educated privately. I am sure they will be in it to put the people first though in this budding utopia people seem to think would be better, maybe they could go on to be as popular a president as Xi, Putin, Bashar al-Assad, Maduro are judging by the free and fair elections in their republics or say a Trump or Johnson populist type might lead us instead, whoopee.

After the monarchy is gone, what institutions are next, should the Church of England be brought down, buildings torn down or left to fall into ruin like some of the old Abbeys. What would people focus on to complain about, what would people turn their attentions to next I wonder? Lives will still be governed by a supreme leader of sorts, allegedly elected fairly, and respected by all no doubt, similar to how everyone has respected Brexit i suppose. Yep, I’m convinced change will always be for the better now, I’m in.

That will never happen. There's a whole class system designed to ensure nothing will ever change. Those who benefit from it will never allow true reform of the country. Being born, by total chance, into "royality" or landowning so called aristrocrats gives those people a sense they deserve a certain level of privilege not afforded to others.
