Nuremberg

Concrete Dreams

Morning all. Have any board members visited Nuremberg before? Heading there shortly and I’m wondering if anyone has any top tips or spots to visit. Thanks!

Worked there for a while a typical bavarian town. Pretty, lots of bars and restruants. As I recall, and it was pre lockdown so it may have changed, anything you buy has to be above 20 euros to pay by card.

There was a festival when I was there in the main square, music, food and beer.

I visited for an afternoon, but liked it so much I stayed two days. Extremely friendly and very funny locals. That was twenty years ago though.

Hitler's favourite town. There is still the main area where the rally's were held. Well worth going to see. Other than that as people have said it's a very vibrant university town.

We were based there for our trip around Bavaria a couple of years back, there's plenty to do and see in the city. The rally grounds are enormous, you can get to them by tram. It's an easy city to get around, plenty of bars and eateries and a very nice riverside.

It depends on how long you have there on whether it's worth branching out. We took the train to Bamberg and Regensburg for days out but you can jump on the underground to Fürth which is worth a look at.

We were lucky to be able to pick up a monthly travel pass for €9, that gave us access to trains (not high speed), metro, tram and bus travel. I don't know whether the scheme is still running.

The metro (underground) gives you transport from the airport into the city, no need for a taxi.

Beautiful city, I had a week there a couple of years ago. The castle is certainly worth a visit, and the Witches house beer garden and restaurant - hexenhaeusle-nuernberg.com is just outside. You can also visit the site of the Nuremberg trials, Courtroom 600.

Not as such; this is the replacement. At 49 Euros a month, it's still very good value if you're staying for any length of time. It does mean the system isn't quite as flooded as when it was 9.

It's not quite as user-friendly as before, as this requires as subscription. I didn't find DB terrible helpful to deal with. I speak reasonable German, but the website doesn't offer translations once you're into the details of this, and their customer service is poor (I got an acknowledgement of an email I sent in September in January!)

The trial courtrooms were a fascinating piece of history, and there's lots to see an do in the old town. Definitely worth a visit.

2 historic sites: at the Nazi party rally grounds you can stand where Hitler stood.......and at the Nuremberg trials court/museum you can relive the events

Only been in the Winter and the Christmas market but it’s a lovely city with a special old town. Two football teams too in Nurembourg and Gruether Furth.

We had a brilliant time in Nuremberg and would heartily recommend it for a city break.
The old city is beautiful and the range of museums and atttactions is pretty big.
The rally grounds are a really strange place as the city is trying to balance reusing the spaces but also preserving the history and educating people.
Food and drink are reasonably priced

For those with kids, Playmobil Fun Park is a brilliant day out.

After using a fully integrated and funded public transport system, you realise what a shambles and a total rip off our system is.
