NW saying we are going in a new direction, Wilder a long ball merchant?

Our fans not even waiting for our manager to be appointed before having a pop now!

Along with the misinformed guff about Wilder copying 80s/90s Wimbledon tactics seen others personally blame Wilder for transfer fees paid by Sheff United - as if that’s anything to do with him!

Wish some fans weren’t so negative.

Wilder often gets lumped (unfairly) with the long ball merchants. He did play a direct style with blades but more about getting it into the final third then playing there.

A lot of their play went through the number 10 on the edge of the box and attacks were designed to get the wide players to the byeline for pullbacks/tap ins.

Certainly a good (and innovative) brand of football but I'm not sure we have the personnel? Blades relied on very physical forward players 'up for a fight" and winning second balls in the final third. I don't see that currently with our team.

He was named the LMA manager of the year (beating Pep) in 2019. I think that looks decent on a CV😉. He got a side promoted that cost less than Britt and Fletcher combined.

The mind boggles. He has never been 'hoof ball'. If anything he's played in a very inventive way.

I'm sure some would be more 'excited' by a former German sports scientist who put cones out for Tuchel or Klopp.

David McGoldrick was central to their promotion as a no10 and over achieving in the PL the following season, he's the opposite of a 'very physical forward '.

I think his approach lies more in a style of play, rather than relying on players with physical strength.

High pressing, high tempo, moving the ball quickly.

I think there's more than enough talent in the squad to challenge, whether he can get a tune out if them as a team remains to be seen, because NW couldn't.

One thing was clear from the video: they didn't snap into this style overnight. I doubt we'll really see it kick in until next season.

I'm sure bringing him in now is with one eye on getting us into the play-offs.

But there's every chance we have mixed bag end to the season too. Another reason for bringing him in now is to ensure his methods are bedded in for next year and give him chance to fully assess the squad.

I hope people are patient. Think they will be as long as there's signs of some progress.

Yeah I probably could have phrased that better. I meant to say that he likes his teams to play in the opposition third, with or without the ball so when they loose it they try to win it back in that area of the field. Structured pressing rather than physicality I guess.

I’m a massive fan of Wilder.

Think for an established manager, he’s as good as we could reasonably hope to attract. Really excited as his teams are a great watch, tough, high tempo, attacking and tactically way more sophisticated than you assume from his persona, and he’ll personally come in hungry with something to prove. It’s a cracking fit.

Had him as my top choice in the ‘Next manager?’ thread over the summer and think I said “I’d swap Wilder for Warnock in a heartbeat”.

Blame me if it goes t*ts up 😁

Ah, yes agree with that, I loved watching Sheff Utd in that first PL season more than any other team, very exciting, very dynamic and at times they completely overwhelmed teams.

Forest are gutted - I’m guessing Spence will be back soon.
I doubt he can come back if it's a years loan. I read yesterday that a few forest fans were flapping in tweets😂

I'd imagine Paddy is absolutely made for stepping out of defence and getting forward (he does it anyhow)

That's the word. Patience. It may take a few weeks or a few months to get us away from Warnock's style of football.
