Opening schools

Interesting that Dr Fauci the US expert throughout this whole pandemic (for now) and widely regarded as one of the s leading expert virologist has stated publicly-

Earlier this week Dr Anthony Fauci, who serves on the coronavirus taskforce and appeared wearing a mask at the Rose Garden conference, testified to the Senate that it would be a "bridge too far" for schools to reopen in the autumn.

( this is in the US but it could as easily be applied here)
It could yes but look at all the other countries that are opening their schools up.
But yes the UK should do things differently to every other country because that's worked so far during all this.

Some of the older school buildings, thinking about a lot of the central London old brick buildings, the actual corridors aren’t even 2m wide, things really should be left to Local Authorities and individual schools to do their own risk assessments whether it is safe to reopen or not.

Narrow corridors at Eton and Harrow!?!?

That is exactly what schools are trying to do they’ve given a maximum classroom capacity that will maintain social distancing and offered staggered starts, implementation of one way systems where possible, a single designated person to drop off and pick up, priority based on need not age group, safeguarding protocols to try and offer workable solutions on a case by case basis, but they are being denied that flexibility by Government policy and are being forced into compromising safety by having to make all spaces available to the 4 targeted year groups and children of designated key workers.

Williamson using Denmark as an example is not entirely accurate, the maximum Danish class size is 20, and they have shorter school days so break times etc are less of an issue than in the UK where the maximum class size is 30 but with exceptions in schools can often be 33 or 34.

Most Danish primary schools are joined with the secondary school so a hell of a lot more space to utilise. Would be nice to have a fair comparison from our govt sometime.

Are Boris and Co leaning on Eton and Harrow? This is a perfect example for them to display the 'peoples' approach they claim to have adopted.

Public/private schools are not returning until September.
Members of the current cabinet with children of school age send them to private schools.
Also at least 27 junior ministers do the same. The government payroll is extensive, so no doubt there are more.
When theirs return to school, ours will too. If it's safe.

testified to the Senate that it would be a "bridge too far" for schools to reopen in the autumn.
He rolled that back within minutes in his testimony as he realised he had been misunderstood. He was concerned about opening schools in areas with outbreaks.

Some parts of the US have so little infection they can more or less get back to normal provided they exercise adequate precautions.

While Fauci seems like a genuine bloke he's made some clangers. He's way too connected to the research fraternity in China, so believed the BS they were touting back in January. If he'd been more sceptical perhaps the US wouldn't have had as many deaths. And he's constantly dancing on a pin trying to steer a course through the divided mess that is US politics. I don't envy him his job - every time he opens his mouth he ***** off one side or another.

No I didn’t. What did you make of what the Chief Scientist of the World Health Organisation had to say? I thought she spoke very sensibly and very knowledgeably about Covid-19 and children.

Even Gove said we can’t eliminate risk but we can mitigate them, yes tell that to the care home managers.

In fairness this is a big and difficult call.
The science isn’t (and never is) unanimous so a judgement is needed.

What sickens me is the ‘children’s education is important’ excuse.
Of course it is.
But, public ally funded kids fromTeesside deserve an education ahead of Eton, Harrow et al who aren’t going back.
Do me a favour.
