Our Man in the Field gig 18th Feb in Saltburn

Hello all.

A few posters have come to our shows in London and up north in the past so I thought it would be worth posting this here - hope no one minds!

We're on tour in February (also playing the Cluny on the 17th) and the Saltburn gig on Sunday 18th Feb should be a really nice one. It's a very nice little venue only 120 cap and very worthy of local support - in fact I reckon more local bands should be playing there. It'll be our full 5 piece band and we'll play all of the new record plus songs from The Company Of Strangers (2020). We sold out two shows at the Slaughtered Lamb in London for the album launch and have recently had plays from Radcliffe and Maconie on their 6Music show.

We've had some very nice reviews here and in America especially this one from Bill Bentley in Americana Highways (Neil Young & Wilco's person publicist and former owner of Slash records):

"There is a definite field of mystery that swirls around Our Man in the Field, starting with exactly what field the musician is swirling in. It turns out the man in question is the psuedonym of British singer/songwriter Alex Ellis, and his new collection, GOLD ON THE HORIZON is a breathtaking jump into the unknown. It is such a joyous walk into the present that it feels nothing short of momentous, like there are healing powers within these songs that really could make sense of modernity. Or maybe not, but Our Man in the Field is going to do his best and try his hardest to offer solace in all the places that confound humanity now. The level of sensitivity laced into the music and the lyrics of Alex Ellis are nothing short of wondrous. Really. Modern music is the history of songs that carry the ability to stop listeners in their tracks and offer a new path of understanding. Albums like this come along every decade or so and really do offer stepping stones to sanity. Even better, songs like “Come Back to Me,” “L’Etranger,” “Glad to See You” and “Long Forgotten” present themselves as private anthems for those searching for something to believe in. Ellis’ voice carries a sense of timelessness to it, and it melds with his lyrics like a man finding a vision in the nick of time. And like so much of heart-healing songs like these, its power is offered immediately. One listen and the sky changes into one of invitation, and any dark clouds are moved into the next horizon. There are never enough achievements like this to bring hope to the front of the line, but when they do arrive the songs move into that place with prayer possibilities. If there is one album released in 2023, this is the one with a circle around it that delivers the truest chance of timelessness. The quiet backgrounds, the haunting vocals, and most of all the songs themselves will not be forgotten. Hope has arrived."

I can remember you 1st putting stuff on here in what seems a very long time ago, and me encouraging you, it seems I wasn't wrong well done Renzo lad.

I've now listened to both albums. Excellent stuff. Reminds me a little of the gentler Jason Isbell stuff with some JJ Cale in there perhaps? These are very good things. IMO.

Not sure how I missed your earlier postings 🤷‍♂️

High praise - big fan of Jason Isbell, we toured with Jerry Joseph who had him play on his record and by all accounts he’s a very nice guy. Hoping to meet him on our next us trip ( we met Patterson Hood and played a little show with him in Portland and he thought Isbell would dig our stuff so I’m trying to get the record to him)

One of the best gigs I have ever seen was the Drive-By-Truckers at The Cluny. Unforgettable.

Managed to see Jason Isbell in Manchester in 2022 after him postponed twice (2020 and 2021). I am genuinely shocked at how little he is known in this country, for me he is currently one of the finest living songwriters and musicians in any genre.

No worries and thanks mate - we’ve got a little show at the Green Note on the 14th if you happen to be in town then?

I’ve not actually been to The Greystones before - what’s it like? Do you know if it’s standing/sitting?

I’m going to try to get to the Saltburn gig. Seen you before and was very impressed.

I was supposed to catch you at the old cinema laundrette in Durham a while back but that fell through for some reason.

Great stuff!

Yes that was a shame about the old cinema laundrette gig - hopefully we can re arrange that at some point.

Saw you as a duo at The Green Room. Really good. If I remember you posted a version of Gold On The Horizon back in 2022. Will probably get tickets for this if I am not away for my Birthday(its the day after but nothing sorted yet)

Just listened to your LP via Apple Music. Not what I was expecting but I enjoyed it! When are you coming back to the USA?
