Our possession and shots on target stats this season

I’ve been looking back over our games this season and in every game (except Watford away) we’ve out shot and dominated possession in every one of them including the reading and qpr defeats

And even the Watford game was close

I know stats don’t tell the whole story but I think it shows that we’re heading in the right direction.

We're definitely short of points we've played well enough to have.
Apart from the Reading game weve done as much as the opposition & on another day could have come away with wins
But we havent & we cant keep telling ourselves that we're unfortunate, we have to stand up & be counted, starting tomorrow night

Mogga knows Teessiders are in a downer this week & will put that across to his players

xG tells the same story, and places a more accurate value on what each shot/ chance should be “worth”.

Look at the last 6 matches box, and click “show xG”, can even look at individual games etc.

true but it shows wilders plans work he just needs the player to convert. Hopefully in muniz we have that now.
Time will tell Jedi, hopefully he does & we start moving in the right direction

Our forwards are not the problem, hes known about the issues all summer, if its Wilder, Scott, Bauswr or Gibbo its gone for now, CW has to find a formula to help the defence & see us climb the table

Saw Mogga with his missus walking his dog in Nunthorpe after dark tonight, rightly keeping a low profile, he will be telling the mackems that no matter the mood on Teesside they will be in for a massive battle tomorrow night and after the Boro score the first goal the crowd will be worth an extra two men.

Unfortunately possession doesn’t mean a lot if you’re passing the ball to each other in your own half, as we did for the majority of the game at Reading - i take your point though. We have dominated most games but have lacked that killer touch, whilst losing concentration to let in some sloppy goals. There has of course been a fair bit of what you might call bad luck with a few decisions not going our way as well - hopefully that will even itself out very soon

agreed, we did, I'd argue int eh other games our posession was much more meaningful and lead to good chances. Even in the last 10 at Reading we suddenly started to go at them and they were all over the place and we could easily have scored 2or 3 with a bit of luck / better finishing

definitely some sloppy goals, but also some poor reffing for three games costing us points, while no ref has given us free points like that.

But we have to do better with what is in our control, and make better decisions at either end of the pitch.

I'd like to see Jones stay on his feet more and not go to ground, I'd hope that Clarke coming in will help shore up behind Giles on the counter, and we need someone to step up at CMD and break up the counter with clever fouls and delaying to let the team get back to defensive shape, through fair means or foul.

We certainly need Jones to find a bit of his form from last season

just to emphasise the xG point
Wow
I’ve watched majority of football and it has been fine margins this season. I’ve been disappointed at every game that we didn’t get more, aside from reading, we done enough to.
Even if we drew at watford I would have been sat on the bus thinking we could have won the game. Same at qpr.
It will click though and we’ll be top 6 before the world cup

I'd even say at Reading we did enough for a point. They only had one not even 1/2 chance, that should have been called offside, we contained them easily.

I'd say looking at this, and having watched some of these games, our results should look closer to this.

Boro - West Brom - DRAW (Watmore misses that glaring chance but West Brom also created opportunities to win)
QPR - Boro - DRAW (by sounds of it we battered them second half and were unlucky not to get that equaliser)
Boro - Sheff Utd - BORO WIN (we gift them a goal through Giles and then miss lots of late chances to win it)
Stoke - Boro - BORO WIN (fairly obvious one, best performance this season, foul for one goal and shocking defending for the other)
Reading - Boro - READING WIN (don't let the stats fool you too much, we were awful and only had a lot of possession/ shots because we conceded early and were then constantly chasing the game)
Boro - Swansea - BORO WIN (Swansea pressed a lot towards the end but apparently were pretty toothless)
Watford - Boro - DRAW (played well throughout, created chances, and we were so unlucky with the late sucker punch)

Some would argue we could even put Reading down as a draw given their goal should have been disallowed for offside. If it had then the game had 0-0 written all over it as both sides looked poor. I still think Reading could have just edged it given how poor we were that day.

But based on those what if moments we could be sat on double the points that we actually are and with a chance to move 3rd with a win tonight.

I still have faith that once it clicks we'll go on a good run (like we did last December). Let's just hope it starts with a win tonight.

Hard to play in their half when they've got 11 players in it, we're not Man City and no Championship team has ever been. That game was a different sort of test compared to the others.

We still created more and better chances than they did first half, even with them putting 11 behind the ball. Their goal came from a 25-yard strike, but a player who had not scored in 100 games, and they had an offside player blocking Steffens view.
The good sign from that game is we managed to figure out a way around it in the second half and had much better chances, and they barely had anything.

The game was never going to be a goal fest with them playing that way, but they deserved 0 goals for what they created, and we should still have had at least one.

We needed more of a target man in that game, but having Chuba out and Muniz still in Fulham didn't help. At least the next time this type of game comes around we should have a couple of options.
