So there's a a week and a half until the big kick off. This is what we have.

Dieng
Glover
Jones

Smith (injured)
Dijksteel (Injured)
Agyemang (U21 signing)

Fry
Leinhan
Van Den Berg
McNair (Injured/leaving)
Clarke (Crocked)

Coulson
Collins (U21 player)

Howson (Injured)
Hackney
Barlaser
Payero

Forss
Jones

Chuba (Injured)
Crooks

Mcgree
Silvera

Rodgers
Coburn (Injured/Loan departure)

We look decimated and pretty weak at the minute.

Right Back, Left Back, Striker and possibly another midfielder are a must for me.
Maybe even a center back if Paddy leaves.

Got massive confidence the recruitment team get what we need before the window shuts though and I'm excited for the season. UTFB

We are in very poor shape (you have missed Gilbert in fairness, but no idea where he slots in anyway)
I really don't share your confidence in Scott.
I retain hope that Carrick and Danks might lure the Villa lads back, but that still leaves full back issues, CM issues, and that's before any further possible sales (Akpom, McNair)
I know we are not in control of PL squad decisions, but we currently look very weak.

We look weaker than the squad that finished the season, but not a million miles away. I would hope/ expect 2 or 3 loan signings of some kind to come in at some point. I would hope that they will be good 1st team signings rather than squad filler. But perhaps permanent signings to not happen until near the deadline.

Timescales are not ideal but to some extent are out of the clubs hands - teams don't release players for loan or sale until they have their own replacements in.

Villa said Archer will be part of squad next season. Going nowhere.

Our squad looks p1ss poor at the minute. Hopefully things might change in next few weeks but I am concerned. We have four games( and a cup match) before the window closes. Thats a lot of points

At the minute we are relying heavily on Rogers, Gilbert and Silvera to do the business, but its a big ask for them all to make the step up from the off. Also got to hope that Jones can kick on this season after his troubles last year, but he is too inconsistent to be starting every week. Forss and McGree are going to have to be huge players for us this season.

We literally have no full backs or a proper striker at present either and that is a massive concern.

I have faith that we'll get bodies in, but we need experience and quality too.

Well at the minute we are a left back down on the squad Carrick had winning week in week out. So I'm not concerned. Would certainly like to see 2 or 3 for the first team by the time the transfer window closes. But the most important thing is keeping chuba, because whatever we get for him, we aren't going to come close to being able to replace him.

It’s the midfield that concerns me most tbh, Howson hasn’t been seen in a while so you’d assume he’s not going to be involved. Barlaser is a relatively unknown quantity.

So we’re likely going into the start of the season with a midfield of Hackney - McGree & Crooks?

In Carrick we trust.

Another way of looking at it, compare the playoff squads from last season.

Sunderland - weaker, no Djallo, Geldhart, Stewart crocked
Coventry - lost their best player, replaced with a hard worker. Wouldnt be shocked to see Hamer off before the window closes

No team has been splashing the cash (because they have none) and significantly strengthening from what I can see.

Certainly looks like the PL loan feeding frenzy will be even more brutal this season.

Think everyone wants their full squad sorted before the first game, but it's not happening. Just hope we don't go down the 5 loan players/perpetual rebuild model.

In 10 days time we will be playing against the like of Leeds, Southampton and Leister. No way in this world is our squad strong enough to get a top two spot unless something dramatically changes in this transfer window.

Doesn't look weak to me though the injures make it look worse. We have the core of last season and have added some exciting young talent to it. When the squad numbers are released we will likely have 3,9,10 missing and I assume that is where we are still trying to add with the exception of 10 (Chuba would have this if he didn't now prefer 29). So a LB and a ST.

I can't see us adding to CM with Howson, Hackney, Barlaser, Payero, Crooks, McNair as part of the squad

Midfield is our strongest position!

Barlaser is smooth as **** it's like you think he wasn't pulling up trees at Rotherham (hint he was).

Hackney, Howson, Payero!

The squad looks paper thin and severely lacking BUT it will at least be fun imagining how good we could be up to the start of the season because there are so many random names that most of us know genuinely naff all about (apart from my guy Newy of course).

looking at who's come in new to the division and see in my eyes an odd one out. Southampton have spent about £10.5m (add ons 15m) on a 19 yr old Man City defensive mid that has really only played Premier League 2 level , so not gone out on loan. I know they have parachute money , but that's quite a hefty price tag for a teenager with no senior league appearances. Anyone aware of Shea Charles ( Northern Ireland currently ) ?

We're good to go imo.

Same every year. I'm not complaining. It's just a fact of life of the transfer window closing after the season has started. The only way to 'get deals done quickly' is to throw money at it and we're simply not in a position to do that. Need to be patient to maximise the 'bang for our buck'.

We did get Giles, Steffen and lenihan in early last year. Loans can be sorted out early if the clubs aren't waiting on any other business. Looks like all our pre window work this year went into getting projects, which I am a little wary of.

Howson hasn’t played all pre-season, so if he is fit it’ll be a while before he’s back in the starting line-up, plus he’s 35 now, we can’t be relying on him.

Barlaser may have been brilliant for Rotherham but he’s unproven for us. He’s done ok, but if the aim is to push for playoffs it’s a big ask to have him step in and be immediately ready.

Payero is unknown too, might be excellent but also might not be here.

Hackney is a wonderful footballer and I will never have anything bad to say about him ever.
