Paddy McNair

We are just a better side all round with him on the pitch. For me he is the best defender at the club by a country mile, he is quick, and he carries the ball out of defence well. Everything Wilder should want from a central defender.
He also has a tendency to switch off at least once every time he plays - see the Watford game. I do like him, and he’s great bringing the ball forward, so maybe he could be utilised in midfield perhaps ?

Against QPR djiksteel was taken off for mcnair and we started playing a lot better.
Against Swansea mcnair played djiksteel didn't and we won.
Against Sunderland we again won with mcnair starting. We scored with mcnair on the field. He was taken off for djiksteel and Sunderland came back into it.
I think djiksteel has been better than mcnair this season, but let's not pretend he's the golden ticket. He's put in plenty of dire performances. They're both pretty inconsistent.
My biggest disappointment with mcnair is the lack of crosses he gets in when playing that position. After Giles he's the best crosser at the club.

Against Sunderland we improved when Dijksteel replaced McNair

Dijksteel had a really poor start to the season, culminating in an awful first half performance against QPR which saw him taken off at half time and lose his place in the side.

We seem to be having a merry-go-round argument of who's actually the problem in defence.

Chopping and changing too much doesn’t help, we’ve had plenty of dire performances this season from some players who always get picked.

The comments about Dijksteel switching off every now and again are funny

OUR ENTIRE DEFENCE switches of every single game this season, Fry was embarrased yesterday by a Journeyman centre backs turning him on a sixpence
McNair is defensively hopeless this year, and Clarke looks to be an oil tanker , completely immobile and a liability

Give me Dijksteel over any other those players, regardless if he makes a mistake every now and again, his mobilty, technique and link up play compensates for it, unlike the
others who just like like docile statues all season

I feel like a stuck record but McNair does not have the positional sense or discipline to play centre back. Maybe its the system and he doesn't get the balance of the need to overlap and the need to defend. Maybe it is a pedestrian midfield that loses possession as he steps forwards, but if you look back over the last 6 months, the times he gets caught on the wrong side of the attacker is simply unbelievable. He seems to switch off at key moments and bang!

I coach U14s and I see kids all the time desperate to get in front of the attacker to intercept, clever forwards use their bodies to roll them and the defender is dead in the water. That is what Paddy reminds me of.

He is one of those players who is clearly good at football, but defining what he is proves difficult. He looks a bit laboured in midfield and has never really convinced in there, but I bet deep down he doesn't think he is a defender and that shows. Up till now he has been a good pro and got on with it, but continuing with him over Dijksteel is madness.

Is McNair interested anymore? He looks a shadow of his former self, something very wrong behind the scene's just now, it doesn't bode well.
We just need to keep encouraging the team, they badly need us
C'mon Boro

That really poor start to the season that lasted 90 minutes against West Brom then 45 minutes against QPR? Yeah thats a really long period to prove yourself in
