Paddy McNair

McNair plays better when he’s on the left of the defence weirdly.

He always seems to rush out and over commits when playing on the right.

He played there as part of the 3 under Warnock and when Wilder first came in.

Mainly played on the right alongside Lenihan under Carrick.

Have slated him in the past, but think he was the leader at centre back today. Maybe deserves a run with Lenihan.
Fry was very poor today, you think with Lenihan missing, Fry would step up and be the main man at the back, but McNair was the rock at the back while Fry was flapping about all over the place.
Lets hope its a one off.

A one off he been like that all season and last season when he signed new deal a lot on here where saying how good of him it was of him to stay with his home town club when in reality no other championship would want him definitely gas already reached his peak and now on the slide

Yeah. I think Fry is so shaky and cost us a goal today. Doesn't seem to be getting better for me. Never understood the grief Paddy gets. Great servant for the club
The grief paddy gets is because he has consistently made bad mistakes over many seasons for us. One swallow doesn't make a summer. He played well today but that doesn't mean mistakes arent round the corner. I would like to see van den berg given an opportunity at centre back soon instead of McNair

I'm not saying he's not made mistakes but I disagree at the rate you're suggesting. He's also incredibly versatile and can slot in in other areas when needed.

He's been class this season. I don't get some of the hate. He's been one of few really good longterm signings from the Monk / Pulis times (along with Howson).

Often hammered for playing out of position due to 'helping out'.

I'm sure Carrick would love to sign him on another contract. Top professional. Yet clearly wages etc are an issue. We clearly can't match or better his current deal. Especially over another 3-4 years. Simply don't think we can keep him.

It's a shame. We've held on to absolute mercenaries and cr*p in the past. I guess Rav and Clarke are ready made to hopefully step in. His contracts up in the summer. You'd think he would have signed one by now if it was happing.

He was excellent.

To be honest, he's generally performed well under Carrick. It spoke volumes last season that Carrick was starting him ahead of Fry - which none of us really saw coming.

Paddy McNair has been an excellent player for this club. (Not sure why a post from Sept is being regenerated)

Like any defender, he's had wobbles but for the years he's been playing for us he's been outstanding. In defence or midfield
An absolute gem who's still doing it, whether filling in or as a regular. Love him

Would be very happy for him to be given an extension, he's been a solid servant for us.

Either way, I'll be wishing him well in the summer.
