Passing

I’ve mentioned it before, but our passing since Carrick has come in, has been sublime. Bordering on being very flipping cheeky, the amount of times we sneak it by the opposition, how close to them, but they don’t get it, or realise it’s coming (Or gone past them already).
There were a number of passages of play last night where I just thought, ’Fk me is this really us doing this?’

Long may it continue.

UTB! We’re the gashest team in football, the world has ever seen!

His high press switch play is a joy to watch and with Finn added to the line up it’s only going to get better. I think he’ll really help Morgan as well as they know each so well.

Without being biased (🙄🙄) you see a lot of Championship/1/2 teams try to play exactly the same way and it doesn't work.

They just don't have the players who are happy to receive the ball and take a touch / play a first time pass (accurately) in half a yard of space. Then move and repeat.

Carrick has coached this brilliantly, but also deserves credit for bringing players into the club who are comfortable playing this way.

We've definitely recruited with an eye on having that particular skill set. It's still early days too to an extent, the longer we stick to this approach to recruitment , the better the squad will be at playing that way.

But as you say don't underestimate Carrick's influence either. It's not just what he does on the training pitch, but his attitude overall. He knows mistakes will be made playing that way, he owns them and never chews the players out for it.

Other coaches are maybe not so forgiving of errors, which brings an element of fear into it, which is maybe why some other sides trying to play the same way, perhaps aren't quite as slick as we are.

As a player he had a very similar approach to the game, which definitely helps. All about positive intent, rather than being concerned about not making mistakes.
