Was having a conversation with a Man U fan at work. He was adamant that Phil Jones would get in our team and be the star man and captain. I wasn't having any of it. I think he's a walking calamity and I think of "Phil Jones Face" whenever I hear his name. What are your thoughts? Would you have him in our team?

Me and my mates used to say something similar with Gary Neville and what would he bring to our, pretty awesome, 5-aside team. At the time GN was getting pelters for being bang average. We decided he would add an awful lot in reality! It’s not until you see a pro up close that you see how good they are. I remember seeing some pools players playing 5-aside on holiday that they were s**t hot!

Surely the standard between your 5 a side team and Boro is quite big.

I’d imagine Jones would be great for us. He’d still drop the odd clanger though.

An established international footballer playing for one the biggest teams in Europe? Can’t imagine he’d have got a game for your team unless big Keith had the runs from his curry the night before.
 
The company I work for had a charity event at old Trafford. Each team was given an ex pro to play for them. Our department’s team was given Wes Brown and he was so far ahead of everyone on the pitch it pretty much spoiled the game.

One of my mates is former Pools captain and defender Denny Ingram. Many would think that League Two standard is nothing special and I can assure you the gulf between him and the rest of us (and some of us were very good players back in the day) was night and day.
 
Played with a few ex-pro's and even after retiring they're head and shoulders above us cloggers!

Phil Jones would be an immense signing for us. I'm a little surprised he didn't make a better fist of it at Man Utd; he was fantastic at Blackburn and I think his injuries, plus a couple of clangers that seemed to knock his confidence, played a big part in that.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him reborn at another PL club.
 
I remember being at a 5 a side competition in Battersea Park and a couple of Tranmere Rovers players turned up and joined a couple of the teams. They were all incredible to watch. The final match, it was agreed, should be the Tranmere lads against a team made up of the best of the others. The Tranmere lads came away about 14-0. They were all lovely fellas too. They offered to buy rounds afterwards, but as we were all theatre bods who had to go to work it proved very cheap.
 
I once played 5 a side at the south lands centre against Bernie Slaven, he had just retired and I was a young 18 year old who thought he could play a bit, about 2 minutes in i nutmegged him and scored, he got the right hump and spent the rest of the hour doing exactly the same to me…..about 15 times in total iirc 🤦‍♂️
 
He would improve us when fit, alternating with Hall. I would take him no problem, probs can't afford his salary even if subsidised.
