Picking up other people's rubbish and ignorance

It is a real problem. Horrible to have to talk about serious fines for people but what alternative is there. Bottom line is this has to be viewed as a crime. It is getting so serious now.

There are several reasons why people litter but I think the primary reason is that some people just haven't been taught how bad it is.

We had 'Keep Britain Tidy' drummed into us via school, TV ads and signs - does this happen today? I doubt it.

Add to this a lack of bins, a 'someone else will clear it up' attitude and a herd mentality where litter attracts more litter - and there's your problem.

As a dog owner myself I can attest to the increasing amount of of poo not being picked up. One thing I would suggest is that more bins should be provided along popular dog walks and not just at the start and end points. Ours loves Portrack Marshes, but there is only one bin at the Asda end and nothing else until you get down to the Talpore, having more bins would encourage people to carry the bags rather than sling them and if it was still a problem, remove any excuse to get out of fines.
Overall, I think litter is just another manifestation of the general lack of respect people have for themselves, others and the environment. Education and fines need to be increased massively and technology brought into make it easier to spot offenders.
What is worse is non bio degradable bags of dog muck hung in trees and bushes !

I have always hated littering, older days there were plenty of bins yet people would still just drop their rubbish. Happily I managed to pass this on to my children, many a time one of my sons would come home pocket full of wrappers as he would not just throw it away, even not using street bins. Kids Eh?
Sickens me that you will go on holiday and see how clean streets are and yet at home many think nothing of just dropping litter as soon as they are finished with it. Picnic on the beach where you have a container to take it home but nope just leave it.
There really needs to be a big push to drum the message take it home or use a bin.

Many a time I've told people off for littering. And u get that response. "I'll be taking someone's job away"
people can be utter cretens

Just been out today, done one main road through estate in Billingham and got 4 full bags in probly 1 mile.
Rough guess about 20 bags in last month. More needs to be done to make this socially unacceptable.
