Picking up other people's rubbish and ignorance

This may but totally unworkable, but if every cup and burger box had a QR code, that was scanned as it was packed, the packaging could be associated with the sale and discarded items identified by the purchaser's card details.packaging

The technology and equipment is already in the retailers stores.

Just like the number plate recognition for littering at junctions I mentioned earlier.

It seems a good idea but wouldn't it cost to employ someone to check the QR code? Who would pick up the discarded items and where would they take them to to be scanned? And who would pay for all of this? I supposed it could come out of the fines that people would get for littering. But I suppose anything is worth a try because littering is just getting out of hand.

I think there are already enough good people picking litter up for nothing - a simple smart phone app could do the reporting.
It would cost almost nothing software aside.

Thanks Hap- I wasn't being awkward so I hope you don't think that. I never thought of smart phone apps- my idea of modern technology is coal based steam power and horse pulled carts!

not at all Trug 👍
All about opinions and ideas, social media, isn't it?
I didn't take your comment that way at all.

As a dog owner myself I can attest to the increasing amount of of poo not being picked up. One thing I would suggest is that more bins should be provided along popular dog walks and not just at the start and end points. Ours loves Portrack Marshes, but there is only one bin at the Asda end and nothing else until you get down to the Talpore, having more bins would encourage people to carry the bags rather than sling them and if it was still a problem, remove any excuse to get out of fines.
Overall, I think litter is just another manifestation of the general lack of respect people have for themselves, others and the environment. Education and fines need to be increased massively and technology brought into make it easier to spot offenders.

It’s all down to a selfish attitude. Keeping this piece of litter inconveniences me, I am going to make it better for myself by immediately dropping it. There’s no care for how it’ll impact anyone beyond themselves.
The more people talk about it and the more the people who do it see others out tidying up hopefully it might become socially unacceptable. I know it will never go away but in time with more positive people in the community the ones lacking respect may just think twice 🤞

Billingham Litter Picking group have just been awarded a tidy sum of money off CF Fertilisers
towards equipment so it seems local business are also joining the push to spruce the area up also.

It all boils down to selfishness, arrogance and complete lack of respect for anything or anyone. Depressingly, traits which are all too common in modern society and the main reason why I avoid people wherever possible. And it will only get worse the longer it's tolerated/accepted. It will also be the aforementioned traits that will catalyse the human race wiping itself out.

This past year has only confirmed what I already suspected about the general public and why I hold nothing but absolute contempt for them.

We do have a problem here too, you can tell when people have finished their happy meal!!

One solution might be for councils to charge the take away companies for clean up services? Extra costs might make them take action in a positive way.
