Places you ended up living but never thought you would??

Berwick Hills.

We lived in Linthorpe and then Ormesby, but Ormesby was a nightmare with neighbours, so we put our house on the market and it was sold in 1 day, we had nowhere to go so moved in with the Mother/Father in laws. We was made very welcome, but as you do, needed our own place, we looked at Coulby, new houses were tiny, same with IB, even the houses that look big on Marton Road-opposite then College were no great shakes.

We eventually found a home on Overdale Road, all done up, big garage and cheap, so for a stop gap we bought it, 30 years later, we are still here, with the best neighbours you could wish for, and it may surprise many, it's very quiet. Would need a huge lottery win for us to move.

I always find the less well known places a lot more interesting and the stories from the people who live there. I know many people find the likes of London and New York exciting, I did when I was growing up. But in reality they're really dull because of the lack of diversity. This is diversity in terms of mindset. These big cities are targeted by the same people. They all want that job, that flat/house and that lifestyle. Once you've seen one pair of boots, shoes or 'sneakers' walking down the street, you've seen them all. It's obviously people just trying to get on in life but there's probably a lot more creative and interesting ways to do it.

That place in Norway or Sweden or story from Hartlepool or County Durham is much more interesting. Perhaps it's just me 😆

That brings me to Durham, I'm there next week for the first showing of a new film called The Old Oak. Someone mentioned that the cinemas in London will be packed out for this and audiences wil be 'pulling off to it' (whatever that means) 🤣 Then they'll going pay £10 for a pint and go back to their flat that's worth about 10 houses everywhere else 🤣

By the way, few places lived are Metz, Strasbourg and Monaco. That Monaco's a bit of weird place, other two are great. Also Boro, Stockton, Eaglescliffe, Harrogate and Newcastle all good. But places are pretty much what you make of them, it's more about the people than anything else. But I always prefer the North to the South - everyday of the week. London still always good to visit though, but would jump on the train to Newcastle or Edinburgh given the choice.

London, Aberdeen, Brielle (Zuid Holland), Uithoorn (Noord Holland), 21 years on Long Island, NY, now Darlo - and that's it!

I always knew I'd live in France since my first visit, so that was no surprise. But I never thought I'd live in the middle-east, Kuwait in particular. Nor did I envisage living in homeless caravans or on so many friend's settees.
