Play new boys from the start, Neil!

Anyone who watched Sporar and JLS's (or Silky, as NW calls him) recent WQ qualifiers for their respective international teams, could see that they didn't have much chance to influence the games only coming on for the last 10 minutes.

It was frustrating as a Boro fan wanting to see what they can do. imagine how frustrating it was for the players?

I hope Warnock plays the pair of them from the start so that they an show us what they've got.

It's not as though they're not-match fit or exhausted from their recent games.

I want to see what Andraz is like playing off a big man like Uch or Matty.

I loved Sam Morsey's never say die attitude but hope to see our midfield bombing forward with the wingbacks flanking at a rate of knots like big Jack's team used to do.

Bring it on

I'm just wondering about how poor a signing Payero could be. He came here match fit into our weakest part of the team and doesn't get a look in. The football isn't that different, in fact it's a lower standard than what he's been used to, and he'll never get up to pace on the training pitch.

Will Warnock go for both Uche, who has impressed, and Sprorar in the same line up?

Its about finding how good they are in the Championship . In Central Midfield we don't have many options with Morsey and Saville sold and Wing loaned out. So Siliki will probably go straight in. Hernandez knows the Championship so he could go straight in. Sporar I expect to be on the bench.

I agree, that's why I can't understand Payero's omission.

If you listen to NW's pre-match media conference, it doesn't sound likely that they'll start. As he said, he'd only seen them in a single training session so far and they haven't even completed a full set of the club's in-depth fitness tests yet.

He sort of implied that they might be involved in the game though, so possibly some time off the bench towards the end?

Neither has played a great deal of football in a long time.

Sporar hadn't kicked a ball since June, and has since had 42 minutes as a sub spread across 3 matches with Slovenia.

Siliki has had 23 minutes as a sub for Rennes in the entirety of 2021 and then after a few appearances for Cameroon in June, he played 13 minutes for Cameroon off the bench the other night.

I don't expect either to start today and for good reason, they'll get up to speed soon enough.
I think Sporar may come off the bench though.

Uche starts for me. Their defence is very strong so let him soften them up then maybe bring on a couple of the new guys. Gazette seems to be hinting that Payero might start. EDIT Crossed with your post BoroFur.

Payero could be in for a start today.

Good write-up in the Gazette this morning.

I hope so, but a guy on oneBoro who got the last line-up spot on has it down as:

Lumley

Dijksteel McNair Fry Hall Jones

Crooks Howson

Hernandez Ikpeazu Tavernier

Though if that's true I imagine his hand has been forced slightly by Bola not being fit enough to be risked.

He can't finish a game. It is comparable.

He finished plenty of games last season, whilst Sporar and Siliki were sat on the bench or at home.

Warnock taking him off before the end of the match doesn't mean that he can't finish it.
He's a battering ram who lacks pace and he's bound to get worn down as the match goes on given his style of play and bringing on pacier players later on makes sense.
He's also been one of our best players so far.

In Uche's case it's down to his size and muscle mass. I think we all knew when he signed having seen him with Wycomb that he wouldn't finish all his games. If he's effective for the time he's on the pitch (and he is most of the time) then that's what matters. That's why we have subs.

A lack of fitness hasn't stopped him playing Uche.
It wasn't just fitness though, it sounded like it was more the fact that they hadn't had enough time yet to integrate with the squad, learn patterns of play, team tactics etc. One training session is hardly enough to get to know people's names, let alone how a team operates.

Ikpeazu had a number of weeks with the squad, played in pre-season friendlies etc. His situation when he first played a league game isn't remotely comparable to the situation with Siliki and Sporar.

Yeah, I’d love to see them all thrown in - as a fan it would be exciting, I can totally understand why managers don’t do it.

I even understand the Payero thing. Quality is quality and good footballers can play anywhere - I’ve made this comparison before, but there’s so much talk of players getting used to a different style of football then you get someone like Bruno Fernandes who comes from the chill Portuguese league to the 100 miles an hour Premier League and it takes him about three touches to be the best player on the pitch by a street.

With Payero though, I sort of get it. There’s no hiding place in centre midfield and it’s probably the hardest position to learn your trade in a new league, every other position can hide a little bit.

JLS has played in the Champions League, I’m sure he’d be relaxed about the prospect of being dropped into the Championship.

The guy who was there for the entirety of pre-season and played nearly every minute in 2021 for Wycombe?

Not comparable situations.
I think you will find he played nowhere near every minute for Wycombe last season. He was subbed off every game he started or came on from the bench. Don't think he managed 90mins.

He did on numerous occasions, there's a screenshot of his 2021 minutes above.

He started 22 games in 2021, he played the full 90 in 9 of them, he played over 75 minutes in 21 of them.

Excluding added time because I can't be arsed checking every match, there were 2,160 minutes he could have played in 2021.
He played 1,894 minutes, or 88% of the minutes he was available for, and that includes 2 matches where he started on the bench and came on late.

Take the two sub matches out and he played of 1,852 of an available 1,980 minutes, or 94%, which I would say constitutes nearly every minute in 2021.

Totally agree with you but Fernandes cost £67 million! Obviously ability wise, he's miles ahead of Payero and would be expected to adapt much quicker... That said Juan Sebastian Veron took ages to adapt and cost a motza too
