Player Contract Extensions

Chance to play a bit of fantasy football management, below is a list of permanently contracted players, when their contract runs until and their current age. There’s always a cost to extensions through signing on fees etc… but who would you like to see get a contract extension? The two that stuck out to me were Izzy, McGree and Howson.

McGree and Izzy are the only two that I'd be looking to extend contracts right now

Feel like if Clarke continues his resurgence he’s well deserving of having his topped up for an extra year too considering he missed more than that due to his injury

I would agree, but towards the end of the season, lets see if he can (hopefully) get a solid 20/25 appearances under his belt with no reaction etc

I'd give Howson one now. Even at 35 he never gets injured and plays virtually every min. He's an absolute gem of a player. A real example to everyone.

He's been on a rolling one year for 2 years. I can't see any reason why he won't get another. No signs of 'legs gone'. Also even if promoted you'd have him around the place even if less game time. That said he'd probably still play 40 times

I'd keep Mcnair. Yet it's almost impossible match or increase his current deal. He will leave for nothing in the summer. We've had our moneys worth. So wish him well.

Mcgree is a talent. So definitely love to see him extend.

We do seem to be on top of contracts over the last few years. Especially with younger players.

The likes of Hackney and Coburn may get in improved deals if they keep developing.

This summer I'd be looking to offer:

Howson - 1 year
McGree - 2 year extension (take him to 2027)
Issiah Jones - 2 year extension (take him to 2027)

I'd be happy to let Jamie Jones and Paddy move on.

I wouldn't renew either Smith or Dijk this summer. Would hope we would address this position in the summer transfer window (or even this one). Unlikely we will want to continue with Smith beyond 2025 and I would be inclined to let Dijk move on at this point unless we struggle to recruit at RB. Either way I'd be leaving that decision until Summer 2025.

I would take until Jan 2025 to assess Crooks' role in the squad and look to renew then if he is still an important player for us. His current contract takes him into his 30s.

If Clarke continues to shine for the remainder of the season and proves he is past his fitness issues, I would look to offer a 1 year extension taking him up to 2026.

Everyone else is contracted up to 2026 or beyond so no need to address.

He probably thought he was going to get some game time with Deing going to the AFCON and Glover going to the Asian Cup. Didnt pan out that way. i think he is probably a decent goalie and a No2 somewhere
