Regarding "woke", during a court case in the US brought against Florida governor and presidential candidate, Ron DeSantis, his lawyers were asked to define the word.
For those that don't know, DeSantis is a leading right wing exponent of culture war politics and he uses woke as an insult.
Anyway, in court when asked what “woke” means more generally, DeSantis’ General Counsel Ryan Newman said “it would be the belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them.”
Hardly the insult most people think in that case.
It is left wing on here, I won't deny that, but I'd love to know how wanting a fairer deal for everyone, when it is statistically shown that the wealth gap is getting bigger year on year, is a bad thing. You can have law and order at the same time as decency and equality without resorting to jackbooted right wing policies. Here in the UK, you'd have to be pretty stubborn to not accept that Tory policies haven't done anything good for the average person who has to work for a living.
