The founder of this board if broadly left as are many of the long term users. But it's a mixed constituency and there are many long term members who are anything but "left". And things are even more nuanced (as they should be) when it comes down to single issue politics. As for the term "woke" ...
I F***ing love Kathy Burke!

It’s really not. It’s quite snoze!

Folks views on racism here are quite clumsy and quite I’ll informed. I’d say most folks on here are well intentioned.. but woke? Nah

Left wing is a funny one too.. anytime there is an incident of any kind.. HANG EM! LIFE UN PRISON!! BRING IN THE POLICE! SNIFFER DOGS! SEARCHES! CCTV! BRING BACK FENCES!

and there seemed to be a lot of support for Andy Preston round these parts.. very much not left wing.

Don’t get me wrong it would be fine if it was, it’s fine that it isn’t. Folks have different views, different opinions.. but it’s not left wing.

It might be a bit more sanitised.. the humour might be a little less.. ‘black and blue’ there’s no wannabe chubby browns who do a decent impression but just forget the punchlines.

I think lefty and woke is seen as an insult by some folks.. like new code words for pillocks and fops. It’s not lefty and woke tho.. there’s a vibe.. there’s a bit of a Karen vibe.

More dad jokes than ‘banter’
Pass us the tea, bag

also when I read some posters post, especially the right wing stuff I have Roy’s tune I’m a Cnut running through my head

Wikism isnt the same as PC I dont think, more like its ugly cousin.

It's a phrase that's been hijacked and twisted to give it a negative connotation, which is a bit sad given where it derived from and the good it was associated too.
PC used to be what woke is now though. "Oh it's the PC brigade" again etc. etc.

This is just a new word for people displaying empathy towards social injustice which challenges the beliefs we don't want to have to change.

It's just a throwabout term for anyone who has 'progressive' ideals. As PC was back in the day.

As for cultural marxism, I'm yet to see a good definition of it. The inclusion of the term Marxism within it makes me wonder if the people who use it have actually read Marx.

This is a good board, hence why I've been a member in various guises for nearly 16 years, however I feel it is very left wing and certain posters do seem to hound out those with even the slightest of right wing persuasion. That is probably it's only downfall.

I've been on this board for nearly 30 years (cripes !) and am politically left wing. However it still annoys me slightly when any conversation (and it's great we dont limit to football) can be turned by someone into a conversation about politics, usually brexit.

Depends on interpretation. Yes it’s been “demonised” in a way, but the term “PC” has virtually disappeared. All that’s happened is that certain cohorts have managed to make “PC” a totally negative thing, with a new name.

Yes, it's replaced PC as a term used by the intellectually confused to describe something they don't like but can't articulate why they don't or, at least, can't without showing themselves to be bigoted. Which is how we ended up with Brexit.

That, and also because a load of the dumb f**** that throw woke around as an insult are not really sure of the difference between political correctness and health & safety.

They can throw woke around as a catch all term.
Bloody wokes!
If I was to boil it down as simply as possible, classic Left/Right politics in modern society largely equates to how much you believe in luck.

The Right tend to believe that they or their family have earned every penny and are entitled to as much of it as possible. The Left believe far more in “chance”, and how anyone can be rich or poor depending on, basically, how lucky they are or have been.

I know Tory voters who will simply never ever vote for any other party because they fundamentally don’t believe that anything they have was down to luck, and they know the Tories will always defend that ideology perpetually.

It’s hard to see how anyone, regardless of your political persuasion, could think that the country doesn’t need a change of government now though. The Tories are practically trying to lose the next GE, even they’ve had enough and are totally fatigued.
Big Government vs Big Business
Nationally Funded Healthcare vs Privately Funded Healthcare
Publicly Owned vs Privately Owned
Mixed Economy vs Free Market

The idea of conservatism and the power of the self is one that can be very alluring.. in reality only the top elite tend to genuinely gain.. any perceived improvement or betterment tends to come from an increase in poverty and living standards. We are living in an era whereby the working class are defined as being out of work! Such is the desperate need to identify with an imaginary unobtainable middle class. Having a house with a mortgage and driving a BMW does not make you middle class. Unfortunately this is demographic that Labour needs to target in order to win the next election..

American style Third Way Politics.. the Tony Blair Masterplan where by we have two choices.. right or further right.

I am left leaning. I also stopped living in Middlesbrough in 1977.

To be honest. There are some circumstances where I feel that this is OK. If what people are writing about is to do with the main subject of the thread and Brexit has made an impact on it. For example, like the 90 out of 180 day rule impacting on people who want to spend most of the winter in Europe.

Yeah, but a thread about EV's or holidays or whatever will be jumped on by someone who will turn it round to the Tories or Brexit - there's. sometimes a long jump between the subject and politics, but someone will try to make it.

It's all part of the culture wars and sadly too many people swallow it.

"Do gooder" led to "PC" led to "wokism".

This terms are all interlinked ways of people on the right creating a fear of change in the less educated and easily manipulated in society. They are ad hominem attacks on the people doing good things, rather than the things they are doing.

This is all the right has right now, fear of change. Scaaaaarey.

politics influences everything in society though, so very the influence of major political turning points such as brexit or the influx of ukipers into the tory party and simultaneous expulsion of one nation tories, or even going back a decade to the effects we feel today from austerity are absolutely valid in many, many contexts.

These shouldn't be taboo subjects. We have a party in power that is moving to the right,, and this is a football messageboard, many of us still remember the impact on the sport with the demonisation of football fans in the late 80s and early 90s under thatcherism. To the point that the government conspired to blame Liverpool fans for police failures and us working class folk were penned in behind spiked fences. The demonisation of the working classes continues today, just in a different form. The demographic on this board is a little older than some of the others, but bizarely we are bucking the trend and staying more left leaning than right. Maybe that's because we engage in open debate and educate each other. Long may it continue

Nope. He’s a classic example of what was described earlier. Flounced when he couldn’t back up his right wing opinions.
I don't know the circumstances behind this example, but why does any poster have to backup their political leaning on here? Unless they are always trying to convince others to change their own vote, which would be a bit odd on a mostly anonymous football message board.

If someone just says they vote for Labour, Conservative, Green Party or whatever - even if you disagree with them - that is their choice.
Why would they flounce just because of how they vote?

It is daft that woke has been hijacked to be an insult which covers just about new way of thinking and behaving.
