Preseason assessment

Crooks was poor and is a sub player when we need to hoof balls in the box and morgan had another stinker. If Morgan is our only fit striker god help us. The sitter he missed when he fluffed it was awful.

Nice to see Fry back, Dieng looked good but how far up the pitch was he at times, hope this doesn't cost us a goal.

Silvera and Jones need to be starting next week in my opinion
 
Pre season is pre season. Nothing to really take away about the football, all about fitness and integrating the new signings.

Need a LB and CF asafp......deals pencilled in for PL loans?

Howson will be a big miss, can't understand why another CM hasn't been brought in......again PL loan?

We will be good to go v Millwall, goalscoring will be a bit of a concern as it stands.

We're in the same boat as most Championship teams - seems to have been a very quiet transfer window all round. Expect the usual late August panic.
 
Haven't seen any pre season - I don't really care about it. Means nothing and I can't remember last time a perceived good or bad pre-season had any bearing on the actual season we had.

Looking forward to next week.

Agree with most of that but let’s give Morgan a chance eh?

He hasn’t played a competitive game for us yet.
 
Dear me the negativity after pre season is absolutely insane.
I'm gonna say this now, last Summer we went out and absolutely killed Marsielle, made them look so poor and by Halloween we were in a relegation scrap.
Do not read into pre season.
 
I have a degree in the art of moaning. It was a long course that began in 1981 but in the past 12 months have not had much practice.

Just watched NZ Ferns go out of the world cup with a spectacularly frustrating performance so the skill is coming back.

Morrgan has never played CF in a competitive match. He made himself available throughout the game and did not hide. He is raw but his persistence paid off with a well deserved goal. We do need better yes but surely we have to get behind the lad?

You can prove anything with facts.
 
I’ve only seen the Betis game live where I thought, especially first half, we looked a team, some of the interplay and passing was impressive.

Without Chuba and Archer we lack a cutting edge, but take 40 plus goals out of any team and that would be the case.

I expect us to have a striker in on loan before the end of the transfer window and think the new signings, Rogers and Silvera especially are technically gifted.

Coulson at left back, let’s give the lad a chance first two or three games, if it doesn’t work again I would expect a signing. Seems to have gone quiet on Alex Bangura, who would offer some competition and fits our model of developing players.

I think we’ll be in and around the playoffs again much like the last two or three seasons. In fact every season since we came down except the Woodgate one (but the table lied that year😉).
 
I switch into 2 different mind sets when thinking about where we currently are with our season preparation…

1 - Aside from losing out on Ryan Giles, maybe the recruitment team thought this would be exactly where we would be at this time. We know we have to play the loan market and that will not kick into gear just yet as the big teams are still waiting to finalise their squads. Hence why we bought a load of younger players at the beginning of the window, so that we could start the season with “something” and try to hold our own and get a few points on the board throughout August, effectively ensuring we do not have a mountain to climb once we have got some new faces in at the end of the window.

2 - Our targets are just not materialising and we are now having to rethink all possibilities and this is costing us time. The recruitment team maybe assumed Chuba would have signed a new deal or been sold by now and the delay is not helping anyone as we can’t make moves either way. This has meant that we will be starting the season in a much weaker position than anyone expected and it could be a long August / September.

You got to hope that it’s the first situation but I fear it may be the second. Having watched a few of the highlights from the opening games, there has been some great football played at times but also some really basic errors that will definitely need to be cut out. We also really need a new LB before the season starts as Coulson is sadly just no where near championship standard and I would imagine he will just get targeted by the other teams again and again.

Anyway, what will be will be. Got to try and enjoy the ride I guess! UTB
