Nicknames and grounds of football clubs.
Name the Bridge/Cathedral/Landmark.

I know the USA has 6, due to Alaska and Hawaii.

If any country beat this logically it would have to be due to being absolutely huge (Russia) or having tiny little island enclaves dotted about (former empires such as the UK etc)

Got asked this in a quiz last week. Your 2nd bit of reasoning is right but the answer is surprising. Due to its territories abroad its France.

Once ascertained that Russia does not have 7 time zones or more to beat the US, it could only have been France, the UK or Spain really as they'd be the only 3 to have so many far-flung outposts.

Whilst the Dutch and Portuguese also had decent amount of various territory most of it has gone the same way as the UKs and been granted independence.

The difference is that other colonial nations currently regard their overseas territories as just that, oversees territories. France regards them as dejuro parts of France itself. This leads to quirks like France having the Most time zones, the longest domestic flight in the EU being Paris to Reunion and the largest forest in the EU being the Guiana Amazonia national park.
