As I mentioned on the thread I started at the beginning of the month, I honestly believe we should be pulling out of it. It would make a mockery out of BLM, KICK IT OUT, etc.Given the slave conditions Desi workers have been operating in to get the venues ready, the huge amounts of deaths incurred in their construction, and the stink of corruption that has surrounded it since Day One, I don't see how any right thinking person would want to go. To be honest, I don't even think we should take part as a national team. We have been taking the knee to end racism but it all feels extremely hollow if we sanction the horrible events around Qatar 22 and turn up like there is nothing wrong.
I've been to every World Cup since 1998 and in normal circumstances would be deep into planning.Anyone going?
When they were getting no crowds during the world athletics championships they let in locals for free. I can see them doing that if tickets don’t sell. But agree that hope it bombs big time.I hope it turns out to be a big flop. Games played in half empty stadiums. Everything about this world cup is everything that is wrong with football and the world. I really hope players refuse to play. There are so many reasons for them not to go there
Think it'll bother them? When they were getting no crowds during the world athletics championships they let in locals for free. I can see them doing that if tickets don’t sell. But agree that hope it bombs big time.
Not one bit.Think it'll bother them?
Yeah think it would. This is a big ego thing hosting the WC. Empty stadia would dent that. Clearly it’s not going to hurt their pockets but that’s not the idea of a boycott.Think it'll bother them?
Whether it bothers them or not isn‘t the point. Simply teams and fans. shouldn’t go.Yeah think it would. This is a big ego thing hosting the WC. Empty stadia would dent that. Clearly it’s not going to hurt their pockets but that’s not the idea of a boycott.
Yes - I think the WC coincides with their Gay Pride month and real ale festival - should be good!Me and all my gay friends are looking forward to going over there and having a few beers.
They will give free entry to Workers - just so the stadiums look full.I hope it turns out to be a big flop. Games played in half empty stadiums. Everything about this world cup is everything that is wrong with football and the world. I really hope players refuse to play. There are so many reasons for them not to go there
I wish they would. I think if a handful said "NO" it might collapse like a house of cardsAnother question.
These days players seem to be much more socially vocal. See Marcus Rashford.
Think any of them might make a stand and just say I'm not going?
The 10 stadiums within 35 miles is actually something that appeals to me. You've pretty much got all the fans together which could be great.I've been to every World Cup since 1998 and in normal circumstances would be deep into planning.
I have no appetite to pour anything into that economy nor do I believe for one moment that players should be going to take part either.
Even if it wasnt such a terrible regime culturally the world cup being played in 10 stadia within a 35 mile radius seems unappealing.
Enjoy if you go. Personally I like to see the country when I go to World Cups, not just hotels and swimming pools (Which could be anywhere in the desert) I hate Dubai for the same reason. The 10 stadiums within 35 miles is actually something that appeals to me. I'd rather have this geography than the one being played over US, Canada and Mexico.
I quite fancy it actually.
