It's a Corner, but honestly i'm not sure how it could actually happen other than through blatant match fixing or a player throwing a wobbly

I suppose it's possible if there's a foul in your own box and the keeper slips and somehow kicks the resulting free-kick in to his own net.

Unlikely, but it could happen.

Or they try and pass it back to the keeper who misses it.
Slips, wasn't ready, bobbles over his foot or whatever.

Or rather than punt it long, a FB plays it back to the keeper to retain the ball, start from the back and the keeper misses it.

Well done young man. ;)
Hang on, hang on. That's not fair, I fell asleep and then Rofesleg jumped in before I could give my final answer.. And he only decided to take part after you gave a clue so I would like his answer scratched as if it didn't happen and then I would like to give my final answer. Is it a wake ? I don't need a monetary prize but a 'well done young man' would be great.... Seeing as though I was there from the beginning. With no clues. When it was much more difficult.

I didn't think a 'salty dog' from Redcar would need a clue but if it makes you happy, your comment that the horse was called Friday made me smile. I used to have the students at school tied up for hours with both of those riddles. 🤣 🤣 🤣

Well that makes it much more embarrassing that I didn't get it, but in my defence I'm only adopted up here... I grew up in Park End so any riddles about lock picking or petty theft and I'm your man ! 😂
Was a very good riddle Norman

The thing is it doesnt matter whether the free kick is direct or indirect, as long as it goes direct into the goal without touching anyone else its a corner.
The law says you cant be penalised by scoring in your own goal from a free kick

A throw in makes sense though as you can't score in the opposition goal directly from a throw in.
But that's because a throw-in is indirect and not in play until touched by another player. That does not apply to a direct free-kick.

And that is why we must get rid of VAR.
