Rate Carrick's overall performance out of 10

Now that the season has ended and he's managed us for a full season, how do you rate his performance whilst he's been here?

8/10

Came in when the club was 21st in the division and just 1 point above the relegation zone. Turned it around and got us into the play-offs, whilst playing some of the best football I've ever seen us play at the Riverside.

In hindsight I feel he made a mistake resting players in the final league games before the play-offs - feel it was a factor in us losing our momentum, and still think he should have changed things up more after going a goal down to Coventry.

Got off to a terrible start at the beginning of this season and although I had some sympathy for him, in the sense that he was a bit short of options at the time, it was still a poor call on his part to play Rogers and Crooks up front in those earlier games in my opinion. I'd been saying pre-season that Forss should be starting up front until a striker comes in, and it's possible that Rogers may have shown more in those earlier games had he started as a 10, and may have been able to make that position his own.

It was also a mistake to throw so many of the new lads in all at once, but in fairness to Carrick he eventually realised this and changed it, which coincided which our turnaround in form.

Saying all that, finishing 8th and 4 points from the play-offs is very respectable when you take into account the amount of injuries we've had, and remembering that we'd played those extra games during our cup run. I think Carrick has made mistakes along the way - not putting Dieng straight back in goal, not playing Forss up front when Lath and Coburn were injured - he's shown a stubborness at times. I'd still say he's got more things right than he has wrong though, and I'm hopeful that he'll reflect on the mistakes he's made and learn from it.

I think next season could be our season. The way we've finished the season has given me hope. It's going to be vital that we retain most of the players who are already here, whilst adding a bit of extra quality.

I’d say 7. He’s learning on the job, but learning he is.
The guy is a winner, and Steve Gibson knows this. I do expect (rather than jus5 hope for) promotion next season.

8/10 for me. He's growing as a manager as shown with him coming up with a plan B and using the 352/532 in some games this season. Especially to stop the rot. Got to the league Cup semi finals, and has had an unreal time win injuries this season. Every player seems to get better under him (maybe greenwood is the only one who hasn't)

I'm so optimistic for next season now. UTB

I don’t think we could realistically ask for much more than he has done. Yes he’s made mistakes most notably, for me, at the start of the season when he stuck with new signings. Considering the injuries we’ve had he’s done exceptionally well. I don’t think other managers that we could realistically have would have been able to cope like he has. He has a big future as a manger imo. Hopefully we can hold onto him for a few more seasons.

There is no other manager I’d rather have at the moment which is a really good thing. We should be able to give it a really good crack next season if he’s backed which I expect he will be. Looking forward to it!

MC has definitely turned a lot of heads during his Boro tenure. Ok it’s been a bit of a struggle this season for many reasons but I think the Teesside public is forgiving in many ways. It’s been a season of lots of “ifs and buts” However if anything is more clear the playing style has improved so much that I’m willing to bet we’ll be in the playoffs at the very least next season.

As far as giving MC a rating I personally don’t think it’s worth rating him as it’s too early in his tenure (18 months)— not even an apprenticeship.

Overall, MC and his staff have worked hard to change the fortunes of the team (one striker) and bring us into the harbour with our engines purring and ready for season two.

MC and his staff needs a contract extension to push on and develop what is a good team spine and hopefully deliver a probable promotion push next season.

I don’t do 7s but too good to be 6 so it’s an 8…
I think it’s a respectable score too because there’s been some pretty bad decisions made that may be were forced on him but he’s the one in the seat…
I guess it’s a collective score for the whole management team then.
I’m fully behind him as long as he stays (no guarantee yet…)
I do feel more confident at the moment than I did just prior to our start this season, but I felt very confident at the end of last season only to be disappointed over the summer at losing so many key players and not really replacing them…
I can see the direction we want to go in, just hope there’s no little currents that drag us in a different direction…

This season is a 6.
Tried to play the same way with different players and started poorly. Changed personnel, style and found a bit of rhythm but then injuries hit and disrupted the season again.
Hopefully we'll have a better summer than last year and be able to start fast.

7.5/10

His first full season as a manager. Still not sure he has his ‘own team’ yet but surely this summer will get him there.

This season he made mistakes and whilst it took a little longer than hoped he finally saw the errors and made necessary changes which I think he will have learned from and will make him a better Manager going forward (and us a better team).

I’m really looking forward to next season with genuine optimism as I believe we have a quality coaching set up now and they need backing by both the fans and the club.

I don't think he or any other manager could have done better with what Carrick had to deal with.

Horrendous injuries, Rogers sold and not replaced afcon depleting the side.

He hasn't had a first 11 to pick from all season. He has hardly had a first 8 or 9 to pick from.

Nobody knows why he didn't put Dieng straight back in and if it was discipline issues he was quite right to sanction him.

Forss BTW isn't a center forward.

Finishing 8th, on face value, may seem disappointing, more so if we'd known that last summer.

But given the arrival of so many new players, the loss of so many key players from the previous season (not to mention lots of goals too) and that was a tough ask. Many new signings were untried and unproven at this level too.

He's brought on a number of players significantly, who are now surely being eyed by bigger clubs and he's lost a couple of regulars mid-season as well.

Then factor the almost laughable number of injuries and it's a remarkable achievement in my view.

More so given that this must be a record year for the points totals of the top 4 teams - it's been largely unprecedented on this respect, teams who has spent big.

So I'd give him a 9, which might be a little generous, but I'm taking onto account lots of factors.

I think we're very lucky to have him.

Last season, a 9 as he has an almost flawless tenure, especially given the $hit we'd been served up beforehand with the same squad, right up until we couldn't quite get over the line.

This season an 8. Mitigating circumstances with the club becoming another wing of the James Cook and though he made a few mistakes he got the vast majority right. Seemed to learn from them and 8th in a transition season with the half the side wounded to bu&&ery is no mean feat.

So overall an 8.5👍 Reason to be cheerful😁
