Now that the season has ended and he's managed us for a full season, how do you rate his performance whilst he's been here?
8/10
Came in when the club was 21st in the division and just 1 point above the relegation zone. Turned it around and got us into the play-offs, whilst playing some of the best football I've ever seen us play at the Riverside.
In hindsight I feel he made a mistake resting players in the final league games before the play-offs - feel it was a factor in us losing our momentum, and still think he should have changed things up more after going a goal down to Coventry.
Got off to a terrible start at the beginning of this season and although I had some sympathy for him, in the sense that he was a bit short of options at the time, it was still a poor call on his part to play Rogers and Crooks up front in those earlier games in my opinion. I'd been saying pre-season that Forss should be starting up front until a striker comes in, and it's possible that Rogers may have shown more in those earlier games had he started as a 10, and may have been able to make that position his own.
It was also a mistake to throw so many of the new lads in all at once, but in fairness to Carrick he eventually realised this and changed it, which coincided which our turnaround in form.
Saying all that, finishing 8th and 4 points from the play-offs is very respectable when you take into account the amount of injuries we've had, and remembering that we'd played those extra games during our cup run. I think Carrick has made mistakes along the way - not putting Dieng straight back in goal, not playing Forss up front when Lath and Coburn were injured - he's shown a stubborness at times. I'd still say he's got more things right than he has wrong though, and I'm hopeful that he'll reflect on the mistakes he's made and learn from it.
I think next season could be our season. The way we've finished the season has given me hope. It's going to be vital that we retain most of the players who are already here, whilst adding a bit of extra quality.
