Rate our strikers from the last decade

I'm surprised Kike hasn't already been mentioned as a success. Especially compared to the other names on that list. I liked Kike. Always thought he put a shift in and scored some important goals. I always rated him above Vossen.

Top 5 in no particular order:

Negredo
Stuani
Bamford
Kike
Scott McDonaold

We did get promoted in fairness, and i'm not sure he had the pace for the premier league (same reason Negredo struggled). Having said that either could've done ok with better creativity around them. It's a little misleading to say Stuani played out wide though, he took up that position off the ball but when we were in possession he was arrivng in the box.

I don't think Negredo did struggle due to lack of pace it was more the fact the nearest player to him in a red shirt was 70 yards away.

I'm not directing this at you @wilkos_perm but in general a number of Boro fans gave Negredo untold and unfair stick that year when he showed some fabulous touches. It seemed that no one was helping him out and he was often isolated. Sometimes great touches and flicks didn't get their just reward due to others not being on the same wavelength.

I did debate putting him on. From memory he mostly played behind the striker but often ended up more or less as a two upfront
I'd argue his biggest flaw was dropping too deep looking for the ball.

I think if you're going to include him, there's a few others should also be on the list. Definitely Ramirez (who did get up alongside the striker consistently), but also Fabrinni and Downing who all played the same role as Tomlin. There's a case to be made for Crooks too.

But I wouldn't class any of them as strikers personally.

i agree he was a technically good player. It's a cycle though isn't it, if you don't have great support around you and you're isolated, you need that bit of pace to make a go of it

I haven't answered the question in my last post but the best 5 for me were:-

Bamford, Negredo, Vossen, McDonald, Nugent

I rejected Stuani as he didn't play enough as a centre forward for me to be included (despite ability). Although I will say the number of people who thought it obvious Stuani should have been played there for us (despite saying nowt at the time) rivals the many thousands who were allegedly at the Boro v Port Vale game in 1986! My recollection is of sometimes hearing groans from supporters in the ground when his name was read out over the tannoy.

Looking at that list not surprised we failed.Only time we done well in that time was when bamford and kike playing .I think stuani would have been prolific if played as a forward.
