Former Northern Echo Boro reporter Ray Robertson has passed away at the age of 92. I am fortunate to have had many conversations with Ray over the years. He told me that he began as a reporter covering the great amateur side of the 1950s/60s Bishop Auckland.
He was at Ayresome Park for Jack Charlton's Champions and John Neal's so nearly men.
Ray had some amazing stories to tell from covering the 1966 World Cup to watching some of the greats for and against Boro and Bishop Auckland

RIP.

That's sad to hear.
He was a friend of my parents back in the day.
We bumped into him at Elland Road after the 2-2 draw under big Jack.
He was so excited he could hardly get his words together.
Great bloke.

I never met him, but always enjoyed reading his reports. He was very knowledgeable about football in general and the Boro in particular, and had a good writing style. RIP

RIP.

I used to send copies of MSS magazine to Ray after first meeting him at a former player reunion. He often responded to receiving the magazine with hand written letters of thanks, and anecdotes of former Boro players, arising from his memory being jogged by the former player interviews in MSS. He was mine of information and great company.

The name to look for in the early 70s in the Northern Echo . Never met him but didnt half enjoy his daily Boro updates
