Recent Boro Managers Comparison

A quick comparison of our recent managers win %, highest finish in a season where they were in charge for the majority of game, and highest finish in the cup. For me it just shows how lucky we are to have Carrick in charge, and although it’s been an up and down season, we need to keep backing him as much as possible. No doubt he’ll be poached one day but until then let’s enjoy it.

Strachan - 28.3% | 11th | FA Cup 3rd round

Mowbray - 39.9% | 7th | EFL Cup Quarter Final

Karanka - 47.1% | 2nd | EFL Cup Quarter Final and FA Cup Quarter Final

Monk - 46.2% | N/A | EFL Cup 4th Round

Pulis - 43.8% | 5th | EFL Cup Quarter Final

Woodgate -22% | 17th | FA Cup Third Round

Warnock - 38.7% | 10th | FA Cup Third Round

Wilder - 40% | 7th | FA Cup Quarter Final

Carrick - 54% | 4th | EFL Cup Semi Final

Does Karanka's win % include Championship matches only or Premier League matches as well?

Carrick doing a great job. No doubt about it. Some of those managers have had stronger squads to work with as well.

That’s all of Karankas matches. For the championship seasons only his win % was 49.4%

Most managers get sacked when they start losing games so you can't really judge Carrick against them when he hasn't "finished". He will probably have a bad run and get sacked eventually, that's typically what happens with managers. We wouldn't have sacked all those managers if they had high percentages but a lot of them will have had a high percentage at some point in their time with us. If he's still at that level in a year's time it would be impressive but we're already a long way back from last season under him. This season he is only at 41% in the league and we peaked at 76% last season (after 17 games) but ended at 56%. His cup performance is primarily due to a favourable draw rather than anything else. Beating teams like City, Utd, Tottenham as we did under Karanka and Wilder was more impressive.

Not knocking him in any way. I think he is great. Just applying some context to the stats. You can make stats tell you whatever story you want if you cherry pick them.

I wasn’t really cherry picking but it would be interesting to see how many games each of them have accumulated these stats

Or he moves on to a bigger team....
In all my time supporting Boro we have had only one manager that has left us for another job (McClaren). Not sure how far back you have to go to find another one. It is a possibility but it doesn't happen often to our managers.

Youre right of course, but I think Carrick will be an exception to that.
