Recruitment Team

At what point do they become accountable. The manager isn’t making the signings, I know we’re told everyone is aligned. But if you take archer and Ramsey out of the picture, what is this recruitment aiming for, and what’s been a success so far

Hoppe ??

It’s ok blaming the head coach when after Millwall and a few more games we’re still on zero points. He’s putting players together selected by the recruitment muppets ??

Maybe Forss as a positive

What about the rest ??

I think it’s a bit early to be writing the players off we have signed already as not good enough. Also I think most championship clubs are in a similar position we are. The big clubs aren’t willing to let any of their fringe players go until they get others in.

For me Silvera looks a good signing and could play an important part in our season. Van Der Berg too isn’t a marquee signing but will add competition to our back line drastically missing last year.

Steffen and Giles were also successful loan signings last season. Lenihan is an excellent free transfer signing and will be our next captain. Smiths been a good solid signing. Silvera looks a talent, Dieng is gonna be absolutely fine for the way we play. Forss is brilliant.

Barlaser the jury is still out. Hoppe abysmal.

Gilbert and Rogers could be good, time will tell.

Van Den Berg is a bit of a coup.

We clearly need some quality in important positions but it hasn’t all been bad.

I’ve watched the Bradford and Auxerre games and so far massively underwhelmed.

I know it’s pre season but you can still see glimpses of individuals.

Silveria or whatever he’s called looks a pound shop version of Hernandez who we had on loan

Rodger’s is a pound shop look alike of adama, but plays like Dong gook Lee

He needs to be played in the akpom role once he’s sold

He’s never been a forward

The negativity from some fans is laughable. The same fans will have been writing Akpom off last season.

We've spent 12 years out of the last 13 in the championship because we've consistently overspent on players who haven't been good enough... Assombalonga, Fletcher, Rhodes, etc...

Wilder wanted to do exactly the same last season with the likes of Dwight Gayle.

We've finally turned a corner in recruitment and in my opinion, we're making better decisions on signings...

Alex Gilbert was captain of Brentford B - one of the best academies in the country outside the top six - He's only 21 and we got him on a free transfer.

Rav Van Den Berg was scouted by top teams in Europe - including Liverpool and Roma - 19 years old and we signed him on a 4 year deal.

Morgan Rogers is still only 20 years old and highly rated by Blackpool fans last season (fans who have actually seen him play competitively - outside of a preseason).

They're all young, exciting, low risk signings will sell-on value to hopefully move us forward long term. Most championship clubs have started following the same business model too (inc. Sunderland).

Bradford was our second team - so not a concern there
Yesterday was poor but we are still a fair few players short which they will bring in, that's one of the problems with starting a season with nearly a month left of a transfer window.
We haven't had any loans in yet, which we will.

Keep calm and have faith

Hoppe so far has been poor but he hasn’t featured anywhere near enough to show us what he’s capable of.

He needs to go out on loan and play week in week out and then we will see.

Akpom is the trailblazer here and others can follow suit.

U23s is northern league level at best. But early to reserve judgement on this one, they all haven’t played enough competitive football, may take a season or two to get them up to speed

He went out on Loan and couldnt get a game for Hibernian. A team who have just been beaten in Europe by a team from Andorra.

Every single player in the world comes from U23 level at some point.

They may but some spend too much time playing non competitive football rather than taking a loan and playing man’s football. The u23s is a good step for 17 18 year olds who are progressing into man’s football. To bench mark the u23s is wrong

It’s non competitive tippy tappy football

Some probably do spend too much time playing non competitive football... and others don't.

You're branding players as not good enough before you've seen them kick a ball.

I think McNair and akpom will be sold and until they are we cannot buy. Akpoms injury has probably delayed any potential moves until he can prove his fitness.

Who identified the loans we brought in the new recruitment team let’s have faith in what they are doing it might take 1/2 seasons before we see the end product

Lenihan, Steffen, Giles, Archer, Ramsey, McGree, Smith and Forss have all been good signings. Nobody knows anything about the new batch, other than the Senegal international goalkeeper.

People slagged the recruitment team off about a number of signings who actually turned out to be good: Akpom in particular, but Dijksteel and Bola as well IMO. Those players were presumably identified by someone in the recruitment team.

It’s too early to say on Barlaser and Hoppe. But that’s why we have a coaching team rather than a manager, so these players can be coached and developed. One or two might turn out to very good further down the line, like Akpom, others may not. That’s the nature of football and, to be fair, human beings.

There’s no guarantee of any signing working out, irrespective of fee or wages or whatever else. I think the club need a couple of really good signings in ASAP but so does every other club. Even Manchester City have lost players and have spaces to fill. West Ham has got a £100m burning a hole in its pocket but hasn’t managed to spend any of it yet.

As always with transfers, patience is a virtue. It’s the same every summer.
