Recruitment Team

I reckon we limp along until the death, chuba will be sold for a few quid and we will be told not enough time to complete anything else.

Hopefully a few out of contract projects will be available

I really hope the recruitment team will have shown their worth when the the transfer window closes…..
Wouldn't hold your breath.

Look at Colback, gone to QPR who are destined for the drop. He played in the Premier League last season and would've been a decent squad player who can play CM and LB. Not saying he's the answer but we could do a lot worse.

I don’t think the transfer window so far this summer has been primarily based on strengthening the first 11, instead we are trying to strengthen as a club and a squad to ensure that in summers to come we don’t need to rebuild from scratch when loan players disappear.

We’ve brought in players who will be involved in the squad this season but none (other than Dieng) should be nailing first 11 spots. However the idea will be for them to develop into quality players over the next season or two. Some will succeed some will fail.

This is the start of moving to a more self sustainable club in my eyes and hopefully something we will benefit from in the seasons to come.

Having said that we clearly do also need to strengthen the first 11 which we hopefully will do successfully this month as our targets become available.

All well and good buying long term prospects but if we dont get some decent first team talent in we will have a tricky season at the wrong end of the table

Agreed, hence my last paragraph.

We need to start to build for the future whilst keeping last seasons momentum going in the present. Hopefully we end up with the best of both worlds.

Yeah, let's hope so eh?

Agree with this. We saw last season at times how weak the bench was.

So preseason we have strengthened the squad. Young players with potential, not old players here for a final payday.✅

Next we tied a few players down to long term deals. ✅

Finally, strengthening the first team with quality ❎. Expect this will be carried out manically over the next 3-4 weeks, along with the other 23 Championship clubs. Loans and permanents, expect 4-5 players in and a couple out.

Not ideal, but I think we will see a different starting XI come September.

Why would we want a 33 year old player who has always been low on technical ability but higher on physical? Wouldn't suit us at all.

FOM (Fear of missing out), is exactly what we need to avoid. We've been there and got ageing players on 2 and 3 year deals, sucking up our cash. Stick to the plan.

To be honest, 12 months ago I hadn’t heard of Giles, Archer and knew little of Ramsey. There was no hint that Chuba would pull up any trees either.

I have to have confidence in the recruitment team to do the same again inside this loan window, which they can’t really do until the Prem squads are cemented. A slow start was always likely.

Then it’s up to the coaching team to blend whatever we have into an effective unit.

We have a lot of first team spaces available for Prem managers to give their, up and coming, talent a meaningful run out.

But if you compare our transfer business to Coventry it’s night and day. Why do we need to start slow every season. You can’t ship out that many key players and fill them with in experience. I might be being too critical but other teams haven’t struggled like we have

Coventry were prepared to over pay on Ellis, we aren’t

the major difference being the players we lost were loan players and we received no funds from them leaving. Coventry got around 20 million for 1 player early in the window so have had time to re invest it.
